“Grandson's Birthday”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 27, 2013

Took my grandson to Turpentine Creek for 2 1/2 days for his twelth birthday. We stayed in the Siberian suite which is just outside the fench where the three tigers are housed. We sat at the window enjoying our meals and watching Donna, Wings and Pebbles. The accomodations were great and the staff was the best. This will be a birthday to remember.

My husband and I just returned from our second trip to Turpentine Creek, as usual the stay was fabulous. We have found this is the perfect weekend trip for us to just get away by ourselves and enjoy the atmosphere of TCWR. We love the Safari lodges, they are perfect for a couples getaway or if you just want some quiet time by yourself. Sitting out on the deck with a spectacular view and listening to the lions at night as a thunderstorm rolls in the distance is an experience you will never forget. Walking around the refuge and seeing these big cats up close is great and to see the interaction with the people who volunteer is very heartwarming knowing that they care about the welfare of these animals. Price of the lodging includes unlimited access to the cats throughout the day without any extra charges. I can't say enough about it....we will definately be making this a yearly trip

My family has been to TCWR a few times before & we're big supporters of their work. (Well, as big as we can afford.) This was the first time that we stayed there & I'm already planning our next trip. We loved this unique experience. Where else can you hear lions & tigers while you're falling asleep?! The real bonus was that included in the price of lodging, we also got unlimited access to the compound & were able to look at all of the habitats before the tours started. It was an awesome feeling walking around with my coffee in my TCWR mug, watching these big animals wake up in the morning, with the only other people around being the interns letting them out for the day. I'll take this over a fancy hotel any day!

Room Tip: If you're using the air mattress, check it when you get there. Ours wouldn't hold air!

This was the most unique lodging I have ever experienced. I would recommend to anyone staying in the Eureka Springs area to book one of the Safari lodge rooms. The accommodations are wonderful and the added bonus of the sitting out on the deck at night listening to the lions can't be beat. The view from the deck is specular any time of the day, but you don't want to miss the sunset. The outdoor fire pit and hot tub are just a few foot steps away from the front entry and robes are provided. The price of lodging also includes unlimited access to the compound area and the tour. This was an amazing experience.

The accommodations were better than many hotels I have visited. Not to mention the atmosphere. I highly encourage anyone who is in the NW Arkansas area to take the drive to Turpentine for a visit. If you want the "whole" experience, stay in one of the suites. Well worth it! Thanks to all the staff and cats for a wonderful adventure. Sincerely, Daniel Bowman

We have been to Turpentine Creek several times in the past but we usually use the RV spots. This time, we decided to stay at the Siberian room. Though the room is in a little need of repair, it is still well worth the money you spend. I paid $150 for the one night and we took our Grand Daughter there. You look out the window and see three beautiful Tigers and they are there the whole time. The cost of entrance into the sanctuary is included with the purchase of a room.

My husband and I stayed at Turpentine Creek's Safari lodging. Our daughter is an intern at the refuge. The room was unique and spacious. At night you could hear the lions "caroling", roaring and talking to each other! As part of your room rate, you have free access to the compound as often as you want during open hours. This is nothing like a zoo, so much better! You can watch as the interns feed the animals. Since the refuge is nonprofit your payment goes directly to caring for the animals. I would highly recommend paying the extra fee to go on a photo tour of the habitats not on the regular tour. This allows you to get right up close to the cages and get photos of the animals through the fencing. Check out their website. Thanks to our daughter, we had one of the most incredible experiences of our lives.

Your admission is good for all day, and includes a walking tour of our newly opened natural habitat areas as well as a self-guided tour of the cats in our main compound. The time you spend in the main compound can vary from 10 minutes to over an hour, depending upon how much time you spend in front of one cage or another. The walking tour of the habitat areas is about a 30 minute guided tour and they are scheduled every hour on the hour from 11:00 a.m. - 3 p.m. The self-guided portion is all walking, but there are benches throughout to rest. We do have a wheel chair to borrow if needed. The guided tour is also walking, unless special assistance is needed and we can accommodate people with a riding tour on our cart (which carries five maximum). For large groups we will be happy to put one of our staff on your bus to give you a guided tour of the large habitat areas upon special request. Most of our staff are Biologists or Zoologists that come from all over the world to learn how to work with the Big Cats. Our tree house bungalow rents for $150/night for two, $15.00 extra for each additional person 5 or older. It sleeps two on a "clicker sofa" downstairs, and it has two twin beds tucked under the eaves in the loft. Generally, it is comfortable for 2 adults and 2 children. Although small, it also has full kitchen facilities, a wrap-around deck and is quiet and secluded. The cats are located only a few yards away in some of the larger enclosures. Children under 5 years old are not allowed in Tree House due to TCWR's safety policy. Our two Bed & Big Cat suites can accommodate up to four people, with a queen size bed and fold-down clicker couch. Price is$150.00/night for two, $15.00 extra for each additional person 3 or older. Babies are welcome at no additional charge. Both rooms have cats right outside the window, and are open year-round. The Safari Guest Lodge (adults only) is now taking reservations to complete your adventure at Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge. Each Room is designed for 2 adults and rents for $150.00 per night. Overlooking the sprawling Eureka Springs Valley, with beautiful sunrises and magnificent sunsets and the caroling of the Big Cats. There are five unique cabins. Each room is also furnished with African Drums for those who care to start a drumming! Along with the spacious hot tub, the units share a 40' Octagonal Deck, complete with a charming covered Gazebo and Fire Pit. Tables and chairs surround the area for comfortable relaxing or light dining. These units are intended for adults only due to TCWR's safety policy. The price of your overnight visit includes unlimited access to our main compound during daylight hours for the length of your stay.
