“Great location but........”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 24, 2008

We have stayed at this hotel many times in the past but this time was the worst. Our bed sheets kept coming off the bed which was hard. We could not find the light switch for the tub light forever, which was hidden in the wallpaper, the hot water tap didn't work for the bathroom sink and the toilet kept stopping up. When we reported the toilet the "second" time, the man behind the desk seemed not to care. We were afraid to use it.
I think we will stay elsewhere next time. They need to renovate.

My sister-in-law and I visited Eureka Springs October 7-8, 2007. She has been there many, many times, but this was my 1st trip (Please note that this was her 1st stay at the Grand Central Hotel).

We were booked for 2 nights at the Grand Central, but checked out after the 1st night due to the unwillingness of the hotel's owner/manager to clean the bath area. As mentioned by another individual in their July 14, 2007 post, the tub area of our room also had significant mold/mildew problems. It was absolutely disgusting.

We experienced the same lack of hospitality that was mentioned in the July 14. 2007 post; and there are only 3 parking places available by the hotel. This hotel does not have an elevator. We had to carry our bags to our room on the 3rd floor with no offer of assistance from the owner/manager. Once in our room, we found a broken lamp lying next to the sofa (which we had to take down to the front desk). That evening we had to make an inquiry about it before another one was provided. I would like to point out that the hotel was practically empty, so there wasn't an issue with the staff being overly busy. I can't comment on the restaurant because it was closed.

Eureka Springs is gorgeous and has many shops to enjoy. There appears to be plenty of lodging accomodations. Had I known where we were staying before hand, I would have read the most current reviews posted here; but this trip was arranged by my sister-in-law, and the hotel was to be a surprise (unfortunately it was).

I will be glad to answer any specific questions.

We more of less enjoyed our stay at the Grand Central Hotel. As billed on its website and in fellow TripAdvisor reviews , the property has a great deal of historical charm and its layout is great. Having the restaurant (which is small) and spa services on-site is a plus also. It was close to the main downtown area on Center Street, being only a block away, but for anyone with limited mobility you need to be aware that that one block is up a very steep hill. The rooms were nice, very clean and the a/c was good since we there during a hot spell.

On the other hand, we were very disappointed by the lack of hospitality on the part of the hotel management. Lynn, who is the proprietor, is not very sociable and seemed incovenienced by having to wait on his paying guests. At no point in time did he or anyone go the slightest bit out of their way to make us feel welcome, and we were there during a slack time when there were very few guests booked at the hotel. Also, the bathrooms were in need of repair. Having jacuzzi tubs was not very romantic given the fact that the walls and tub molding was grimy and mildewed! You should also be advised the although the hotel does have parking and issues parking passes, there are actually only 3 parking spaces behind the hotel. Had we been there during a peak time we would have had to take a shuttle bus from a lot a mile away like other hotels' guests do.

As a result our experience at the Grand Central was nice but could have been much better. This hotel has a lot of character and a lot of potential, but until its management gets serious about providing superior service and the best facilities we will be staying elsewhere in Eureka Springs when we visit again.

Recently stayed at the Grand Central while attending a concert in Eureka Springs. We've been to Eureka several times but this was our first time at Grand Central. It was quiet, the rooms spacious, and the location perfect. Easy walk to the Auditorium and to all the great shops in Eureka Springs. It's a great old building, clean and well kept. Only wish you could book over the internet. We've stayed at the Crescent, Basin Park, and in bed & breakfasts in the past but the Grand Central will be our preferred choice for future visits.

  • Disliked — Can't book online
  • Tips/Secrets — Lots of hills in Eureka Springs, could be tough walking for older visitors.

I've stayed at several hotels in downtown Eureka Springs. This is by far my favorite. It's near the lower edge of downtown, so it's not the most centrally located, but it has the most convenient parking lot of all. It's right outside the back door. Some hotels there have parking several blocks away. This is an all suites hotel and the suites are huge. They are very clean and the staff could not be friendlier. The Grand Tavern Restaurant next to the lobby is outstanding. As for location, there are steps across the street that will have you in the heart of downtown in 2 minutes. The hotel also has a spa, but I never went there. This hotel is great for those of you that want to drive to area attractions frequently. All the suites have Jacuzzi tubs with showers. They even have two bedroom, two bath suites for families or groups. There is a balcony is wraps around the back, side, and front with plenty of tables and comfortable chairs. I was alone on this trip, but you never feel alone in Eureka Springs. I will stay at Grand Central again. Check estc.net for info on this town.

Originally from the East Coast and a seasoned traveller, I would've never thought I would have a good time in Arkansas. Eureka Springs was one of the cutest little towns I have ever visited! My husband and I drove down from Kansas City, MO for a weekend trip. We stayed Grand Central Hotel which was conveniently located in the middle of the "action" (shops, restaurants). GC's building is quite beautiful. The rooms are a bit expensive though. They are a little dated as well. I know it is supposed to be "historic" but re-upolstering the couches and updating the bathrooms would be nice (for the price you are paying --- $160 for parlor suite). I received a 1 hr massage, which was wonderful and relaxing. We had dessert at the hotel restaurant. The flourless chocolate cake was to die for! Seems that everything in Eureka Springs closes really early! Still a cute little town with unique shops and good restaurants. I would recommend this hotel mainly based on the great location and guaranteed parking.

A top rate Hotel in the heart of Eureka Springs. Excellent service and a very friendly Hostess/Owner. We stayed in a deluxe suite with 2 bedrooms and 2 baths. Very clean rooms and a wonderful continental breakfast each day in our room.
Our Hostess even makes her own soap and shampoo for each room and also sells larger items of each.
We booked Massage treatments (Jason) was excellent. We had facials and parafin dips by Kit (excellent). It was a relaxing vacation.
