Owner description: The Eureka Springs Historical Museum is located in the heart of the historic district at 95 S. Main in Calif House, built in 1889. Its mission is to collect, preserve and exhibit the documents, photographs, and artifacts pertaining to the history of Eureka Springs, (Carroll County), and surrounding areas. See the colorful past of this unique town and the people who lived here. A fascinating collection of papers, photographs, mementos, official documents, home furnishings, and other artifacts are on display. We offer a newly renovated main floor with new exhibits that tell the story of Eureka Springs. We also have a second floor with more exhibits, as well as an Art Gallery that features local artists that helped start the artist boom in Eureka Springs. ESHM is a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization, and does not receive funds from state or city taxes. The museum's income is derived from admissions, donations, fundraisers, research fees, and gift shop sales, as well as memberships which are open and available to all interested persons. We are open from 9:30am-4:00pm Monday through Saturday, and 11:00am-4:00pm on Sunday.

In the summer it's hot in this area so be prepared to talk a slow walk around the museum. There's some very interesting items of local history .. something that I love is learning about the local history.

The museum is modest, but is well organized and gives insight into the early history of the town and of the county.

We enjoyed our visit to the museum. It was very informative and educational. Parking is right next to the museum so no long walks. There are displays upstairs also and the only way up is the stairs. Admission is reasonable and much of the history of Eureka Springs is in this museum. Check out the old fire pumper.

When we read some of the other reiews, my wife and I wondered if the visitors who ranked it low understood what what they were getting into - this is a historical museum! If you're bored by history and its details, then you're probably going to be bored here. If - like us - you love to immerse yourself in the history of a place, then you're going to love this place. It's set in an old home, with several rooms and floors, all of which contain artifacts from Eureka's history. We were probably there for an hour, wandering through and looking at everything that the museum had to offer. It's a great place - at least for anyone with an interest in history!
