Owner description: "With over 100 exotic cats and other wildlife on display, Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge is one of the largest big cat sanctuaries in the United States. The non-profit USDA licensed refuge, founded in 1992, has grown to become one of the Top 10 attractions in Arkansas and the most popular in Eureka Springs. Lions, cougars, leopards, tigers, and bears are displayed in large natural habitats surrounding the main enclosures and gift shop. Each animal has its own story/history plaque for self-guided tours and over night accommodations are available via the Safari Lodge, RV park, and camping facilities. Guided tours are available from 10am until 4pm (Summer) or 3pm (Winter). The refuge is open year round (except Christmas Day) from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.."

We purposely visited this refuge at feeding time and thoroughly enjoyed seeing the many big cats: lions, tigers, cougers, wild cats, and pumas eat. You could get much closer to them (and still be safe) than at most zoos. There were a few non-cats also. The staff was very friendly and you could tell they loved their jobs taking care of these rescued and beautiful creatures...several of which had been abused and/or abandoned by humans.

The best cat sanctuary I've ever been to. The cat's here are happy and healthy. You can tell that the animals are spoiled by their interaction to people.

We really enjoyed our visit to Turpentine Creek. Definitely take the walking tour, it's optional, but part of the ticket price. It's very informative and interesting. The cats would sometimes respond to the tour guide and the stories she told about the animals were great. The walk is about half mile long so might be difficult for some.

A friend of mine and I had the opportunity to visit this Refuge in May 2013. It was absolutely wonderful! I highly recommend taking the tour in addition to walking around at your leisure. It is obvious that every staff member is 100% dedicated to the well being of these beautiful animals...all of whom have come to them from homes where individuals could no longer care for them or they weren't being cared for properly.

While it is sad that these wild beauties have to be in any type of captivity, I cant imagine them receiving better care anywhere than at Turpentine Creek. I have visited many wildlife refuges and safari parks, this one is by far my favorite.

I was so enthralled with the place, I took the opportunity to rent one of the available Safari tents for an overnight stay...it was amazing to hear the chuffing and roars throughout the night. I loved this place so much I was thrilled to donate a new tire toy for Spyke, the black leopard! I am planning a trip beck this next year to see Bam Bams new home for myself.

Sincerely- don't miss the chance to visit this wonderful Wildlife Refuge and bring the family along. Much better than most any Zoo I have seen, up close and personal. You will fall in love with this place!

Truly a delight to see how well loved and cared for are the "occupants" of the refuge. It is so well - kept and cared for and they are a wonderful asset to the cause of the Big Cats!
