“Great information but it would have been better if the hotel wasn't so busy”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 13, 2011

We were unable to book a room at the Crescent Hotel as a result of the multitude of weddings for 11/11/11. As a result we stayed at another location but took the tour anyways. Our guide was friendly and despite being one of the newer members of the staff very informative about the history of the hotel. As for the paranormal information I appreciated how candid she was in relating that the craziest thing she had ever encountered at the hotel were some "drunks." She did share stories with us that others had passed along but was forthright in explaining that these were just personal experiences. I have watched Ghost Hunters before and they showed us part of the video from their investigation but I have always appreciated more the idea that a story no matter how good is just a story without proof. During the tour we were shown pictures of some of the paranormal encounters and history of the previous owners and guests as well as allowed to visit the famous morgue. She even would allow a small group of us at a time to go into the cooler while she shut the light off to try and experience something on our own. No one in our tour did though. Personally because of the number of people around for the weddings and the time of our tour being at 9pm I don't think it was ideal conditions for "ghost" hunting. They will be offering midnight tours starting later this month which will be especially nice since they plan to do some more renovations to their elevator and hotel over the winter and that supposedly can stir up paranormal activity. At $18/person for a 90min tour I feel it was well worth it, and just because we didn't see anything doesn't mean that maybe you will.

“Lots of spirits, just not the ghostly kind.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2011

When we went to purchase tickets for this tour we thought we were being wise by avoiding the earlier tours, which were nearly full and went for the 9 PM one, which only had 4 signed up. This move ended up backfiring on us.

We were told to arrive 15 minutes early and where we were supposed to meet. We arrived as instructed and were greeted by a woman who told us that the 9 PM tour might now be a 10 PM tour! We were told we could wait in the lounge and someone would come and get us. This should have been our clue to get our money back right away, but we really wanted to take the tour and this was the last day we were going to be in town.

When it was after 9 PM and no one had come to get us, we decided we better find out what was going on. We were told that there was a group that wanted to take the tour and they were waiting on them. They weren’t sure this group was going, as it was a wedding party, whose reception was being held in the hotel.

We sat in a room with the other people who were signed up to go on the tour. Rhonda, the guide, tried to explain the situation and it was apparent that she was not thrilled about having to give a tour to a group of drunken wedding reception revelers, either. She kept trying to get an updated status on whether this group was going or not. She finally did get the word that the group was going, but we had to wait another 15 minutes for them to get up to the room. It was clear that our worst fears were about to be realized as nearly every person came in carrying a drink. They were informed that they couldn’t take their drinks on the tour, so they had to pound them down...something they were well practiced in judging by their condition.

The tour itself was fine, though it was interrupted every once in a while by a one of the wedding party’s dumb or crude comments. They needed to have things repeated to them when if they had just been paying attention, they would have heard it the first time. I think the tour is a bit overpriced for what you get, and definitely was for what we had to put up with. I give high marks to Rhonda for being able to keep her patience with this group and still deliver a good tour.

Bottom line: This group should have been offered their own tour instead of being foisted on other unsuspecting customers. At the very least they should have been ready to go at 9 PM when the tour was scheduled to go. The fact that they delayed the time of the tour without any notice, is reprehensible. As long as you are aware that they are not above doing this type of underhanded move you won’t be unpleasantly surprised.

“Good history..”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2011

The ghost tour was a nice add-on to our stay at the Crescent. We did it mainly for the interaction with other guests and the history. Sure there are some "spooky" legends, but nothing paranormal - at least on our visit....not that we expected it. It just made the stay at the hotel a little more nastalgic. I would not just visit for the tour and not stay at the property for a night. I recommend the late tour while it is dark.
