“Old and dated cave.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 4, 2013

I have a special place in my heart for this poor cave. As a caver and a member of the NSS, this cave had at one time the potential to be an awesome self-guided touring cave, but alas, it has been heavily damaged by folks who feel they have to touch everything they see. The tour is headphone guided on headphones that we old in the 80's and you follow a yellow painted line in the pathway. Every-so-often you come to a box with a lit green button on it that when pressed, gives you information about that particular area of the cave. It is well lit and the paths are dry since there isn't hardly any water flow in the cave anymore. There are fenced off sections that lead to the lower portion of the cave that is off limits, but very tempting...
I love the little dust bins on the sides of the walkway that kindly ask you to deposit used flashcubes here.
The owners are very funny and love chit chat. The gift shop has trinkets at a good price, but not always a necessary purchase. BEWARE: The walk down and up is pretty steep. There is a ramp that has traction lines and handrails built in, but it is steep. Especially going up.

“This cave is tired”

The cave is exhausted. It's nearly dead. Over commercialized through the years. I love caves but not this one.

“Onyx Cave Park”

Fun cave experience. It seems that with each corner or section of this cave brought oohhs and ahhhs from the entire crowd. I took many pictures to remind myself of the amazing wonders that exist because of our Creator.

“It's ok.”

As much as I wanted to love it, I was a little disappointed. The owners, staff and giftshop were delightful, but the actual cave was disappointing. It's neat that they have a self guided tour, but it has just been over traveled. All of the natural moisture has dried up, I assume thanks to all of the hands touching everything throughout the years. The exibits, and headphone technology are all outdated and needs some upkeep. For the price it was decent I guess, but I would honestly save your time and money...unless you have extra of both lol!
