We were totally charmed by this beautiful old county house B & B and its proprietors, whom we fondly recall now as simply “Madame et Monsieur.”
It was late October, and because there were few if any other guests, they upgraded us to the largest room in the house. It was nice, in the old-fashioned and "just slightly worn" and comfortable way of many countryside establishments. (See photo of the very nicely remodeled bathroom.)
They were so kind to us, and put much thought and effort into making just the right restaurant reservations for our two nights. When finally it came time to leave, we told Madame that we could not do so without saying goodbye to Monsieur, and she said but of course, and took us out to the garden, where he was picking raspberries for the next day’s breakfast. (See photo.) Before we departed Monsieur told us to wait while he went down to his cellar. He emerged with a half bottle of local dessert wine -- “a wine for women,” he said with a twinkle in his eye, as he looked at my wife.
The house and town are adjacent to the Mayenne river (see photo) – very nice for pleasant walks all year, and for boat rentals in season.
