This is the fourth time we have stayed here in the last six years. After an early start and a long drive from Calais there is nothing better than sitting on the terrace by the river relaxing. We arrived in very hot temperatures and it was not long before a thunderstorm. This meant we had to eat in the restaurant for the first time. On other visits we have always been lucky enough to eat by the river. The restaurant is a charming room, with air con, which was a boon, and as ever the food is absolutely delicious.
I really think this little hotel, with its very reasonable room rate and superb food, is an example of what value is still available in France if one is lucky enough to find it.

Room was 60 euro per night (excluding breakfast). The room was small, and no air conditioning but very clean with a comfortable bed, so we reckoned this was pretty good value, compared to UK hotels which would be 30-40% more for this accommodation. Breakfast is pretty average: if I was staying here again, I would go out to a bar and get a coffee and croissant. The hotel is in a very quiet location...on a road, but with very little passing traffic. Just walk across the road and there's a great eating area, by the river, under the dappled shade of trees. Stayed 2 nights, ate in the outside restaurant both nights. Food pretty good, and very romantic setting. Expect to pay about 65 euros for two, including wine. Service very friendly and if you need it, the owner can speak English, but was equally willing to accept my efforts in French! In summary: a great stopping off place for one or two nights, best when the weather allows for outside dining.

A great little hotel south of Le Mans on a nice river. Not expensive & off street parking in the court yard. The room was cheap $65 euro, clean & tidy & adequate for my needs. The best part was the riverside scenic drinks/restaurant area. Very quiet & peaceful with a beautiful river setting. The food at the restaurant attached to this hotel is excellent, tasty & value for money! The manager/owner was very welcoming & went out of her way to assist me. I would stay here again. Only minus was the wifi which wasn't available in the room.

Stayed here for the 24 Hour Le Mans. We stayed for three nights and the room I had was overlooking the car park. The room was spotless, clean and functional. The bed was very comfortable with nice pillows too. The location is idilic with a very nice summer terrace next to the river Loir. The staff were very friendly with the owners speaking English which was a huge help as we didn't speak a word of French! I would highly recommend staying at the Auberge and the food was excellent.

Room Tip: The front rooms have the best views.

Go off the beaten track for this sweet Auberge, overlooking a river with FABULOUS food. The decor may be 80s but the welcome is timeless. Eat, if you care about food. But most of all savour the silence, the personal touches and the exquisite hidden location. Don't tell anybody in case you can't get a room ....

We were really looking forward to visiting the L'Auberge. It is a Michelin Bib (good food at moderate prices) restaurant with rooms. It is located overlooking the Loire just south of Le Mans and so should have been an excellent overnight stop going south.
On arrival the owner rushed out, not to greet us or help us with our luggage but to tell us that we had incorrectly parked. The large car park was almost empty. This set the scene for the service which was cold and indifferent. We had the best room in the hotel. It was spacious and overlooked the Loire and its price of €70 was quite reasonable. The room and the hotel in general were a little shabby, which had the welcome and service been warm we would have considered charming. However the real disappointment was dinner. We did not like the €28 menu, so we had the €42 menu for 3 courses plus cheese. The first lobster course was excellent but the meat course was so tough that was almost inedible and I have eaten better puddings in an English pub! This was not good food and at €42 this certainly was not a moderate price.

This is really a restaurant with rooms. It is a few miles off the motorways thorough beautiful countryside and easy driving. There is a small reception room/lounge and the bedrooms are small and functional but comfortable and clean. The situation is idyllic on the banks of the river Loir. It is a good stopping off point on the way from Calais or Caen or even for a holiday on the Loire itself. It is situated in a quiet hamlet with parking. The best rooms are overlooking the road and river at the front of the hotel but I think there are only 3 of them. The road is very quiet. There is an indoor restaurant or a terrace overlooking the river when it is hot. The restaurant is excellent with a choice of set menus from €28. Service is attentive and most of the diners are French. We had the 42€ menu with lobster, foie gras, cheese selection and sweet which was a really gourmet dinner. You can see birds diving and fish jumping in the river and also walk along the country roads after dinner. The double room cost 65€ with a standard French breakfast for 8€ each. We have stayed twice and will return.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the road and river. The road is not busy enough to disturb your sleep
