“Great way to round off our holiday in France”
Reviewed August 19, 2013

We were looking for something slightly different as a one night stop -over on our way back to the ports from the south west of France and so chose Chateau de Boisrenault. (We have 3 children so Novatels usually suit).

On the way to Chateau de Boisrenault we stopped off at the nearby Chateau Valencay (30mins away) which is great for adults and kids alike. Splendid building with rooms open to the public and outdoor children’s play areas including the biggest maze in France. Great for letting the children run off some steam after a long car journey.

Like a previous reviewer we had spent most of the journey to Chateau de Boisrenualt feeding the children stories of spending that night in a boring city centre motel. Our parental mind games paid off and we were rewarded with exclamations of amazement and joy (and probably some relief) when we finally pulled up to the chateau.

Like many other such buildings the chateau will not suit everyone; if you are looking for contemporary hotel facilities and trappings and have a penchant for fluffy towels and dressing gowns then this is probably not for you. However it definitely suited us and we had a memorable stay.

We were in the huge room “Hadrian” which swallowed all 5 of us up with no problems (one of the reasons we chose Chateau de Boisrenault was it was one of the few places we found that could accommodate a family of 5 with young children). The beds were very comfortable and it was the best night’s sleep we had during our entire 2 week holiday!

We had pre-booked an evening meal at the Chateau but there are Auberges near by if you prefer to dine out. We had a very enjoyable meal, shared with 2 other French families and a Dutch couple, all of us round one very big table, so it made for a very social occasion (don’t be put off if you do not speak much French, ours was very rusty but everyone was very patient and spoke some English when our French struggled! Plus the owner, Florence, and her son, both of whom are very friendly and welcoming, also speak very good English). The food was probably the best we had during all our time in France. Compliments to Florence for her excellent cooking!

Breakfast was again a social occasion round the same large table and was of high quality.

Would definitely recommend to families looking for something a little different and with a bit of character. Our boys loved it and so did we!

Room Tip: Room "Hadrian" is huge and perfect as a family room

This venue will not suit everyone but it suited us really well, it's a real shame we got there so late and left so early.

We had Room Hadrian, who's footprint is almost as big as my entire ground floor at home. It was like going back in history and living in the past, not to say that the Chateau did not have modern facilities which it does.

Breakfast was a treat, we'll hosted and shared with the other guest on a big breakfast table.

A really really great stay! Oh and by the way the bed was really comfortable a very unexpected surprise!

We were sceptical about what to expect but it was spine tingling peaking the spires through the tree tops as approached along the road out of Buzençais. Not everyone's cup of tea I suspect, but for us and our dog this was 5 star perfection. We were looking for a stop over on our journey (which started in Southern Spain) betweeen Carcassonne and Le Havre and were delighted with this find.

The Chateau is charmingly old fashioned, with large spacious public areas (drawing roon, library, lounge etc.. ) with traditional board games and suchlike to while away relaxing hours. (but also has WiFi). The bedrooms are spacious and individually and traditionally decorated, but with en suite failities tastefully incorporated. The grounds are spectacular and great for exploring with the dog.

As out of season mid week guests we had the place to ourselves and it felt like we owned our own piece of fantacy French heaven. We loved it!

This is our first stay in a French Country Chateau and we enjoyed it thoroughly. We stayed in the Hadrian Room which was huge with a nice bathroom including a huge bath. The room is on the corner of the chateau and has great views of the grounds and countryside and gets fantastic morning sun. The bed was extraordinarily comfortable and the room so large you could have a vacation there without leaving it! There are pleasant walks around the chateau and the nearby fields are covered in the beautiful yellow flowers so make for great photo opportunities. The hostess, Florence, is lovely and was so welcoming which really made our stay that much more pleasant.
Recommended without reservation.

Room Tip: The Hadrien Room occupies a quiet first floor corner, is huge, has fantastic views and gets great mo...

This beautiful french Chateau owned and runned by the castle's family is a treasure.
Very friendly owner, open minded and social with no attitude.
Very romantic bedrooms in eclectic style, comfortable bed and shower and private toilet. Also free coffee and tea facilities in room and wifi in public area. Pool is open in summer time.
Public rooms at the 'belle etage" are breathtaking and you may lounge in those rooms!!
Breakfast was the best and most extended breakfast ever in a french chambre d'hote, served at the terrace with park view.
Perfect quiet night rest!

Room Tip: No airconditioning, top floot rooms may be hot during summer because they are under the roof.

This impressive chateau sits in delightful grounds amidst the beautiful rolling plains of bright yellow rapeseed and other crops near Chateauroux.
The chateau is run by the same family who built it in the late 1800s. Florence, the lady of the house was charming and made us feel very welcome as was our dog.
We walked through the magnificent grounds, and across into the forest in the afternoon. Our room was wonderful, spacious and very prettily decorated in the style of the period. The views from our window just gorgeous. Florence recommended a lovely restaurant in Buzancais for dinner that evening and L''Hermitage was a lovely Auberge and presented very good food in a pretty garden setting.
Breakfast the next morning was on the terrace looking out over the gardens and the pool. Horses grazed in a nearby paddock, it was a delightful setting and delicious breakfast. It would be a perfect place to spend a few days while exploring the many chateaux in the nearby Loire Valley also a great stop on route to Paris or Calais.

Chateau du Boisreanault is a very commanding building which charms you from first glimpse.
Eclectically furnished with high quality antiques and a vast range of bric a brac and collectibles the chateau is a very interesting and comfortable place to stay. Our room (Hadrian) was enormous with lovely views of the park and a good sized bath. We were made very welcome by the owners Mother (as the owner was away) and felt very at home. Thank you!
