Chateau de Kerlarec

We stayed at the Chateau for 3 nights in September. Francoise and Dominique were charming hosts , the room was beautiful with every small item attended to. Breakfast was excellent even to Francoise poaching eggs for us!!. The antiques in this Chateau were amazing. Excellent local restaurants for dinner Highly recommend.

Style and comfort are clearly of utmost importance to the hosts. Our room was very comfortable, including excellent bedding for long and restful nights. At about 20-30 minutes from the coast, it is also close to Quimperle and Concarneau. Staying at the Chateau de Kerlarec was a very enjoyable experience. We only disliked the fact that we had to leave too soon!

Francoise and Dominic are the perfect hosts, charming, genuine, attentive, welcoming and knowledgable. The Chateau is beautifully furnished, the rooms and bathrooms immaculate and spacious, the bed linen of the finest quality, the cutlery, glassware and dinner services you would wish for your own, the pre dinner cocktails delicious, the evening meals exceptional, the breakfasts always a great variety and choice. Quite simply five wonderful nights which we wished we could extend. Their local knowledge is unrivalled, ignore the guide books and ask Francoise instead. For true French hospitality and charm then it has to be Chateau de Kerlarec.

We had an amazing stay at the chateau and marveled at the warmth and hospitality of our hosts.
There was not a moment tht we did not feel pampered. They guided us to the best restaurants and shared their maps and books as well! We will definitely return to the chateau and visit our new friends.

M. and Mme. Avelange, the owners, were as kind and accomodating as well as being completely professional. They were very welcoming and truly enjoy being hosts!
The food was simple and delicious and the wine impeccable. Every detail is looked after to ensure the guest's comfort. My daughter and I were very happy that we had chosen Kerlarec and enjoyed every minute of our stay.

We truly recommend this place!

Château Kerlarec – Brittany France, (near Arzano & Quimperle’) – June 01, 2010

We have visited France many times over the years, and have grown to love Brittany. While more subtle than other regions of France, Brittany is filled with many gems, both known, and hidden. Each time we return, we feel warmly embraced by the people.

Château Kerlarec, in the western part of the Finistère, near Arzano and Quimperle’, is definitely our favorite place to stay! From the time you drive up the long, pretty driveway overhung with trees and flowers, you feel as if you have entered a setting worthy of an Ivory/Merchant film. It’s a tranquil and beautifully landscaped property with the sound of very happy birds that come and go.

Dominique and Françoise acquired the properly, in recent years, from a previous owner. The Château has 3 floors filled with exquisite antiques, and original stained glass windows. It is like staying in a living museum. Having tea in the library or dining room is a special treat, and it’s hard to even want to leave for site seeing.

Guests here will feel pampered amidst elegance and serenity from the moment they arrive. The central stairway is gentle and sweeping, and it hardly feels like you are ascending. The rooms are gorgeous and extremely comfortable – a mélange of great materials and tasteful design! They are very clean and smell fresh, with fresh flowers in the room to welcome you. The beds are very comfortable with pretty linens that add to the luxury of the room. The bathrooms are amazing – nothing left to chance. They carry the same theme as the rest of the house with antiques and art, but with all modern facilities. They are all very clean, with wonderful thick towels, and large bars of soap. Very good lighting in the bedrooms and bathrooms too.

Breakfast is served in either the dining room (ask for the story of the ceiling!) or in the library, and is simply the best. Fresh cheeses, breads, homemade jams, an extensive list of the best loose teas, coffee, hot chocolate . . . crepes, cakes, and even ham and eggs, if you like! All served on beautiful linens and dishes. Every morning we brought our notebook down to jot down the delights, hoping to find them in the U.S. …most likely an impossible task.

The owners, Dominique and Françoise, are so kind, intelligent, and caring about your vacation experience. We usually do a lot of research about the areas we visit, and travel quite independently. But Françoise is a master travel guide, and we pretty much tossed our original plans aside, and used her treasure maps to guide us through the day. Every morning we came down and asked “where are we going today?” Everything she had suggested were highlights for us…wonderful surprises. We also had amazing dinners at both natural French restaurants and wonderful local establishments suggested by Dominique and Françoise. We were given suggestions on restaurants, tea salons, and chocolate shops for many of the places we visited each day (even including other regions we were driving through later) – all excellent and now preserved in our notes for future visits.

In warmer weather, the “atrium” is used for teatime and breakfast – a very pretty greenhouse with beautiful art and original stained glass. There is also a nice pool and tennis court behind the Château in the midst of lush greenery.

We had a problem with our return flight (it was cancelled!), and Dominique & Françoise were very generous with their time in helping us deal with the situation, which took some time, and then they made us a wonderful lunch before we got on the road (and called the next hotel to let them know we would be late). We can’t thank them enough!

Between the lovely Château, its owners, the people, and the endless treasures of this region, we will be returning very soon.

We arrived very late at night. they were waiting for us since hours. Nevertheless they were lovely with us.
Names of the rooms stolen from literature, we were in "Colette", our friends in "Victor Hugo". Wooden floors, pieces of period furniture, antiques ornaments everywhere (even too much sometimes). The lights enrich the atmosphere.
Very nice the small town Quimperle nearby....very good restaurants there.....and we are Italian, we know what a good restaurant is ;-)

Excellent breakfast, every day different and completely home made. Rich choices of tea. Mr and Mrs Avelange are strong and tough but extremely kind with their guests.
