“Beautiful house in peaceful surroundings”

We spent two weeks at this beautiful 19th century house in the small village of Saulieres.
The house is big and easily accommodated our large group of 11 (including 3 teenagers). It has a really rustic feel to it with old features and decor to match. You will not find perfect, shining, beautifully designed fittings here- rather a real home from home.
The house had a really good sized outdoor pool, two barbecues and easily enough space for everyone to sit together on the balcony to eat. It was clean and we found the owners friendly and happy to answer any questions that we had.
You will definitely need a car to explore the area as the village is tiny and the nearest shops are 4 miles away in Argentat, but it does has a lot to offer if you are prepared to drive (which you should be as the winding roads are great fun).
There are a few canoe hire places along the Dordogne and walkable access to the river if you bring your own canoe. You can also do guided canioning tours in the tributaries and a lovely waterfall walk near Albussac is about half an hour away. There are plenty of old villages and towns with traditional markets nearby and a range of other attractions to suit all ages. The owners provided lots of information to route through to find our more.
I’d defintiely come here again as it felt like there was still more to see when we left and it was very peaceful if all you want to do is chill out by the pool.

This is the best holiday let we have stayed in. The house is this amazing converted French barn set in the mountains. So you step outside on to the balcony and you are greeted by this amazing view. Its so peaceful as well. The rooms are really big and everything you need provided. There are even two washing machines! Its a perfect space for kids and groups as there is so much space in the lounge and this huge wooden farm house table. But the real majic is the pool. Its a very good size pool and best of all its all yours. Completely private. There is a pool alarm which makes it feel safe. We spent most days around the pool with pool toys provided and deck chairs and loungers galore it was a slice of heaven. It is also very close to Argentat which is a very lovely river village with all shops and brilliant ice cream parlor (yum). Gwyneth the owner was also really lovely and made the booking process really easy and answered all our questions really quickly she has her brilliant. So highly recommended if you have kids and are looking for perfect holiday home in the Dordogne.

Me and 7 of my friends drove down from the UK to Saulieres to get away for a few days and get some sun.

The house itself was very easy to find with ample parking, in a lovely little village of Saulieres.
Upon arrival the house was very clean and we were happy to find all the beds were made and towels were left. It was very well equipped, with all cooking, cleaning essentials etc and dishwasher! (Helpful due to the size of our group)
Large television we were able to watch English television on during the late nights.

The pool was a good size, very clean and deep enough to jump in in the deep end. Was a little nippy but very refreshing and needed on the 35degree plus days! (We enjoyed very hot days the entire time of our visit :)

The bedrooms upstairs were quite warm but their were fans provided in each one.

Lovely place to go for walks and there were shops(supermarkets) in nearby towns/villages
The roads were lovely to drive on, unlike the UK!

The thing we liked most was the view every morning out of the kitchen window looking out onto the hills/mountains. Sunset was also lovely.

Overall was a lovely house and we wish we had stayed longer!

Massive thank you to the owner Gwyneth for accommodating us
