Gourmet restaurants are not my thing. Delicious food, nicely served in an excellent environment. But that is exactly the problem. There is always too little of the good stuff on the plate if I empty the bread basket. Bistro Sinne is indeed a gourmet restaurant, but, but but... I emptied the bread basket.

Specially decorated restaurant in a renovated old industry complex. Bistro Sinne offers interesting tastes for lunch or dinner. One example is Finnish herring with licorice paste from the local Brunberg candy factory. Fresh home made bread also served. Great food, excellent service.

The restaurant is located south of the city center on the other side of the river but still at a walking distance. The enviroment is still under development (November 2012), but the restaurant experience pays back the lack of the views.

What is better than free some time from your busy schedule and take a lunch deviation to some new place. Today, as the latest The 50 Best Restaurants of Finland 2012 list came out, number 11, Bistro Sinne from Porvoo was already in the list even opened earlier this year May.

Only 40 minutes of drive from western part of the capital area and we arrived to the restaurant. Got a nice table besides the partly open kitchen to admire chefs and sous-chefs work. We took the 3-course lunch menu (choise of two starters, two main courses and one dessert) with strong recommendation to choose the Osso Bucco for the main course.

The starter was sugar salted whitefish and horseraddish sour cream. Nice, beautiful dish, with balanced flavors and texture. This was followed with Veal Osso Bucco and saffron polenta, bistro style dish with lots of soft flavors, very tasteful, indeed. You could feel the multiple hours of water salting and 15 hours of steam owen cooking for the totally tender meat. We chose the Barolo Zocolaio 2007, which was ruby red hints of orange, elengant ripe fruites, spicy undertones and leather inclines and perfect match for the Ossobucco's protenies and garlic garnish. And the best part of this Barolo, apart of its perfection, was the Bistro's pricing very afforable pricing policy (any Helsinki restaurant would have charged two times or more).

Dessert was Lemon curt and salt licorice meringue, excellent combination of multiple tastes and flavors, yet each recognizable and in full balance.

Highly recommended, indeed.

We visited brunch on Sunday. It consisted on starter buffet, main course of your selection (one of two) and dessert. Food was delicious, especially the starters. Food was nicely presented. The staff was professional and friendly. Interior was of industrial and loft style.

I will definitely visit Sinne again.

After living in Porvoo for a few years, there is finally a nice fine dining place where you actually feel welcome, too, and where the food actually is worth the price. I had fish as a main dish twice at Sinne and unfortunately was not so satisfied with that, though. From here on I will stick to meat dishes for the main course, although all the fish I had for starter's was really delicious. As a new world wine drinker, I must say the selection was very biased in the French and European selection, unfortunately, but that could be solved by choosing champagne.
