“We enjoyed our visit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 30, 2013

This was a great place to visit and had a lot of interesting things to look at. We had the good fortune of being there when the Icelandic horse display was on and really loved that. The village was interesting, especially that people give up their holidays to live the life. We spoke to many of the people there and found it very interesting to learn about some of the ancient crafts, some of which I had never seen before.

“Very interesting”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 19, 2013

Visited with family and found the visit thoroughly interesting. The Danes are not a showy people so visitors need to ask questions. Most of the staff speak good English and were very helpful answering our questions, even asking us about ourselves! We were amazed to learn that everything being used on site is actually produced on site, eg swords, shields, chain mail (sp?), leather and wool products, everything. It truly is a picture of life in Viking times.

The food at the cafe is delicious and made in house. Slow food. A far cry from the swill served up at Canadian theme parks.

“Well worth a visit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 8, 2013

Spent a good day here. Plenty of things going on (maybe just during holidays or on celebration days). We visited just after midsummers day. Try some archery, mint a coin or have a go at whittling. You pay an extra 35DKK (abt £4) but good for the children. At the end of the afternoon visitors were invited into the Manor Farm and offered soup and bread. Thought this was a lovely idea. Something you can't do in the UK (where we are sadly too health and safety mad). Although we did not eat in the cafe the food was reasonably priced and looked superb and good value. Most people could speak English so no problems there, puts us Brits to shame.

“Not bad, more staff would have helped.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 8, 2012

This place is a brilliant idea, but when we went we only saw a few volunteers in costume sitting around, so it didn't have that "alive" feel that it was supposed to. There were plenty of different things to look at and the buildings felt pretty authentic, but some of them were shut. It was still an interesting day and I would probably go again if we went back to Denmark.

“A wonderful outdoor museum”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 19, 2012

We took our three boys, ages 9, 11 & 14 to the Ribe Viking Center and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. My husband and boys are Viking history enthusiasts though anyone who likes to experience history in a hands-on way can enjoy this museum. We purchased activity cards which was an additional charge but very worthwhile. With them, visitors can try out the archery (kids and grown ups), hammer out a viking coin (and keep it), and whittle a stick to use as a spear. We enjoyed the birds of prey show and Icelandic horse show and meeting people dressed in historical attire and participating in activities typical of the Viking era. Wandering in and out of thatched roof homes and barns and learning through observation and conversations with Viking residents was a delight. We were sorry to have missed the warrior training as our boys would have enjoyed it. They did have opportunity to pick up swords and shields and learn how they were used though. The cafe was good and the gift shop was very nice as well. We highly recommend the Ribe Viking Center for the whole family.
