“Very Basic”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 5, 2013

We booked these appartments as it was the cheapest accommodation we could find and we didn't anticipate spending much time in it. The room was very basic and would have been a squash if there were 5 of us, although it was fine for just two.

The kitchen area was very basic and we would have struggled to cook any proper meals. After looking a the state of the kitchen utensils we decided not to even try cooking, so ate out every night.

The appartments are well located for the slopes and the lockers which are just past reception were useful. The ski hire being in the building was also helpful.

The deposit was annoying as it's quite a lot of foreign currency to go home with and we did not know that there was an option to pay in £s.

The check out time was annoying. We needed to be out by 8 even though our bus wasn't until 12, as we were supposed to have cleaned the appartment there wasn't actually much left for the staff to do to turn the room around.

Based on the price we got what we expected. If I was looking for another budget place to stay, I would stay there again.

We booked last minute with Thomson and got a really good deal on this accommodation, for what we paid it was acceptable but had I have paid full brochure price then I would have felt that it was very over priced.

The apartment was clean but very tired, our apartment consisted of a living/dining area with bunk beds and a single bed a separate double bedroom and bathroom. It seemed fairly well equipped but we didn't attempt to cook anything, so unsure about this. We were on the 6th floor, the lift worked fine.

We had to leave a deposit at reception on arrival (150€ or 130£), which we aware of from the Thomson site, on leaving they made you check out of the apartment one hour earlier than necessary so they could check the apartment before returning the deposit, this meant checking out at 3:30am instead of 4:30 for the toulouse flight and sitting around an hour, which seemed a little extreme.

We booked the half board option, breakfast was in the bar at the Manzano, it was OK, they cooked to order whatever you wanted, it was cooked only, no continental option. There were some cereals but they were not very fresh.

For dinner you had to walk down the hill to the Olimpiades, there were always two choices of starter / main for half board guests the quality of the food was good although the choice limited, my daughter and I are vegetarian and they always offered something, but it was quite basic ( pasta/salad). They were flexible with the children, would make pasta /pizza. But due to the very limited choice I would not upgrade if I went again as it was quite expensive and we didn't really save by doing so.

The apartments are at the top of a pretty steep hill, so you feel quite fit by the end of the week! You have free lockers in the apartment but because of the children we hired a locker near the lifts, it cost €80 for the week, but was worth it.

We had a great time, these apartments are OK but very basic and quite tired. It was half term when we visited so the guests were mainly families, the rep did say at other times it tends to be quite lively.

We have been skiing for many years, and unfortunately, this is the worst apart/hotel we have stayed in.

1. We had to pay £150/Euros upon arrival - not stated when booking
2. We paid extra for a seperate bedroom which was basically a stud partition that did not even reach the roof
3. Woken 4 out of 6 nights by noisy groups of lads coming in at 4am (as we have children this was a nightmare)
4. Freezing rooms (had to ask twice for an extra heater)
5. Rooms are very old & tired & as previous reviews have said, clean, but felt grimy. Did not want to walk around without shoes
6. Beds had very old blankets that looked very grimy
7. On the final night, the cleaners started cleaning rooms at 2am therefore scraping beds along tiled floors, smashing glasses & hoovering. We were therefore awake from 2am despite not leaving until 6am - DISAPPOINTING

Plus points:
1. Ski hire in the hotel - Very convenient
2. Food extremely good (Cooked breakfast in Manzano, Evening meal in Olympiades sister hotel)
3. Very Very friendly & nice staff
4. Very convenient location, only 5 minute walk in ski boots to & from slopes
5. Large ski storage per apartment

We really like Andorra & had a great holiday, it was such a shame that some areas let it down. I would definitely come back here, but unfortunately not to the Manzano. I would however stay at the sister hotel 'Olympiades' which is on the slopes so ski in/out!

I hope this helps!

To begin this review I would like to state that we stayed here as part of a deal which was very cheap - had we paid full price for this accommodation, this review would be a lot worse.

As stated in other reviews, you need 150 euros or pounds upon check in as a deposit. We were also asked to leave our passports at reception overnight for the first night - we reluctantly obliged as we arrived very tired at 2am.

The room was very basic, but fine for its purpose - it was clean enough but somehow felt a little grimy, we didn't feel like we could walk barefoot in our bedroom.

The bath was very small and, upon arrival, we were greeted with 3 single beds - only two of which were made up (at opposite sides of the room), rather than a double that we, as a married couple, had requested.

As my wife was hiring rental skis, the rental shop underneath the hotel was a very good location. Also with regards to location, it is only a very short walk to the piste from the front door.

All in all, this review would have been a 3,taking into account the price etc, had it not been for our experience on the last night / day.

One of the staff members came into our room at 3am, mistakenly thinking we had checked out already - this was very scary to be woken up in such a manner, and we received no apology, only justification ("most people check out at about 2am on a Sunday").

It was then impossible to get back to sleep as all the empty rooms around us were being very noisily cleaned and made for the next visitors to arrive (this went on from 3am until about 8).

Another staff member then re entered our room at 930 and told us that we should have checked out at 830,despite being told on arrival (and written on the "house rules" note we were given by reception) that check out was 50 mins prior to our transfer (which was at 2pm). we therefore hurriedly left our apartment. Once again, when we complained about this, we received no apology, just more justification that the "house rules" note was out of date and shouldn't have been given to us.

Regardless of the price, this should not have happened, and left an incredibly sour taste after what was a great holiday, in an ok apartment, in a lovely town and ski resort.

I would come back to pas de la casa, but I would, on principle, avoid the manzano apartments.

We were booked into the manzano through a travel agent. The hotel is fine and the rooms are nice with friendly staff also.

The only issue I have was with the rental gear from the shop there. I was given a very used snowboard with chips missing out of it and scratches all over it. I didnt really mind as im a novice boarder and it did the job. I took the board back to the shop after the week and they told that the board was broken and I had to pay 120 euros stating that the laminate had split on one of the corners (very minimal) . With or without the laminate splitting, this board would never be worth 120 euros. I now have a useless bit of wood in my house just to remind how ripped off I have been.

Thanks for ending my week with a bad taste in my mouth.

We have just returned from Manzano apts and all in all we where a happy bunch of sleepy skiers! The apts are clean and basic but a little on the chilly side as the main room which had a bunk bed and a single bed only had one tiny heater right by the balcony door. The beds are a little small for anyone over 5'5ft but the water was pipping hot and the shower was very powerful. We did cook in one night and managed fairly well with limited utensils but the staff did try and charge us for wanting a couple of salt packets! A little unreasonable. The location is good even if it is at the top of the town but you have a 150m walk to the garage where you ski down a 100m blue run. So do not pay the extra for ski lockers as it really is no drama getting your skis back to the FREE lockers at the hotel. The ski hire shop is in the basement of the apts a little bonus for getting sorted on your arrival day.

Room Tip: We booked with Crystal and paid £25 extra each to upgrade. We had an apt big enough to sleep 5 for 3...

We were a party of 4 adults we arrived in Manzano apts on 6th January 2013 quite late due to an unforeseen delay, please let the luggage van take youre cases n skis from coach up to apts we decided to walk on and take them ourselves not a good idea On arrival at the Manzano we were greeted quite late by our crystal rep Emily who was helpful beyond the call of duty a little honey and def an asset. Our apartment we felt was a tad small for our party, proceed with caution when booking, the studios take compact to a new level, having said that we adapted to our circumstances within a few days, the Manzano is clean and basic the staff were courteous and helpfull when called upon. We had a lovely weeks holiday a few restaurants which definitely deserve a mention, the underground next door to the spar supermarket fab food reasonably priced just lovely. The KSB on the slopes a tad more expensive but prob one of the best tornado Rossini I have ever had mmmmm. It's probably, No it is the cheapest skiing holidays I have ever had so to sum it up a cheap, clean, bit of a walk and food is up with the best.
