“good location for the slopes”
Reviewed April 19, 2009

We just got back from a brilliant week at Pas de La Casa. The slopes were great and you could barely want for a more convenient location. The hotel is adequate. Our rooms had no external windows (the hotel is on a steep slope so some are in the back of the building buried in the mountain) but they were comfortable given that we only slept in them after a hard day on the mountain :) The hotel is rated a 4 star given that it has all the ammenities - the pool, sauna and spa are very welcome at the end of a long day. And the fireplace in the hotel lounge was very nice to relax in front of. We paid a two/three star price for it and that was fine given that the pool, spa and sauna are small and well used and in need of minor repairs (tiles etc) - I would have been unhappy if we'd paid more. We had half board and the food was a repetetive buffet of average quality. Free WIfi in lounge area.
Overall a reasonable hotel, clean windowless rooms, great location.
Re the ratings:
Cleanlisness was below average for a supposed four star (or any hotel) - the cuttlery and plates were frequently dirty and the pool area was consistenly in need of cleaning.
Service was ok - the bar & reception staff were great but the kitchen/restaurant staff seemed stressed at times
Room grading is only low given no external windows, otherwise it was ok, clean, well kitted out with a safe, tv, hairdryer
Value - beware, if you get a good deal, its an adequate hotel, if i'd paid full advertised price I would have been upset
Pas de la casa - tourist orientated resort, normal english & irish pubs, good winter gear shops, check out the iglu bar!

Just returned from a one week trip (Mch 8th 2009) to Pas staying at the Himalaia. I chose this hotel after checking the reviews on this site and can confirm and deny some facts. The hotel is hot, well the rooms are hot indeed, you really do need to have a window or balcony door open in order to cool down ( if you don’t like it hot that is ). Also, when booking make sure you don’t get any of the 'internal' rooms which face into a walled atrium. These seem to be 102,202,302,402, and 502. Otherwise its less than 100m to the slope ( through the passage way adjacent to the Hotel/Cafe Olympiades ). On your return remember to keep any eye out otherwise it is a bit of a trek back up the hill via the streets if you take the run to the bottom of the slope where the main lift is. There is no gym anymore ! But the swimming pool, sauna and hot tub are a great benefit at the end of the day but seem to be little used. It was the same 8 or 9 people each evening using the facilities. There are a few wooden tiles missing from the edge of the pool ( literally a handful ) but this doesn't detract from the experience and are on the far edge wall so can’t walk on that side anyway. The pool isn't large, perhaps 15m long and 3m wide but it's enough for some exercise. The hotel staff were very friendly. The food was great with a good and very varied choice each evening. I would say almost to the point where no main course was repeated during the week. Breakfast also offers a good variety with continental, multiple choice of cereals and lots of fresh fruit and the obligatory bacon, scrambled eggs and beans ! Variety of fruit juices and hot drinks to choose from. Prices in the hotel bar were reasonable at €3 for a pint of lager €3.40 for a bottle of magners. I only drank bottled water with my evening meal and 1.5litres cost €3. a wine list was available with prices between €13-€18 for a bottle which compares well with uk restaurants. I didn't bother with the 'nightlife' outside of the hotel as just socialized with other guests in the main bar after dinner. There are 2 pool tables at €2 a game, a couple of tv's ( show Spanish channels but sound on low ), there are a couple of internet stations at €1 for 20 minutes. Beds were comfy, rooms spacious and nice decorated. I couldn't really complain about anything other than the heat as I don't like a hot room/house. That said, your gear was dry by the morning. There are quite a few ski/board lockers in the underground garage and you 'rent' a padlock for €20 for the week which is fully refunded on returning the lock. The lockers are large enough to store two snowboards with enough pegs to hold boots, helmets etc.Although the bar area could get a bit smoky in the evening it wasn't that oppressive and there was NO smoking in the restaurant area so that was welcome. All in all a great hotel.

I travelled to Pas 4 years ago with a group of friends (lads holiday) and had a fantastic time. However I was a little wary travelling here with my girlfriend because I had memories of the place being over run with groups of heavily intoxicated blokes. Although there was still an element of this in resort, it was alot better, there were more mixed groups and the place seemed alot more civilised.
I'm not going to lie Pas is hardly an attractive resort, but the mountains and ski area are beautiful. The ski area offers more than enough to keep most people happy for a week, and the pistes were always groomed to perfection. The lift system is quite efficient although some of the older chairlifts can be a bit vicious, but the same could be said for any ski resort. We were very luck with conditions when we were there, there was plenty of snow and we had clear blue skys for most of the week. Take Sun Cream, when the sun is shining it is very hot, we all came back with serious goggle tans!!
We were very impressed with the Hotel Himalaia, the rooms were lovely, everything was very well laid out, and there was plenty of storage space for clothes etc. We were on the top floor so had skylight windows which gave us a lovely view down the valley. The food in the restaraunt was excellent, there was something to suit anybodys tastes, and there was so much of it!

If I could afford to do it, I would go back to Pas this week and stay in the same Hotel I really can't think of anything wrong with my whole holiday. Go there you will not regret it!!!

I have just returned from a fabulous week's skiing in Pas de la Casa, as we have stayed in this area many times we chose to return to the Hotel Himalaia Pas due to its fabulous location, literally 3 mins walk to the slopes where you can ski down to the lifts, the hotel was renovated in 2002 and offers comfortable sized rooms, we had a triple on the 2nd floor with a balcony.
The rooms are overheated, so take plenty of short sleeved tops even with the air con turned off it was like a sauna, we tended to leave the windows open during the day but were unable to do so at night due to the noise from drunken louts returning from the bars in the early hours.
The hotel has a swimming pool, jacuzzi and sauna best to use these before 3.30 pm otherwise they get very crowded.
The hotel also boasts are very large comfortable lounge and bar area, sadly we did not get much use of this as it was overrun with screaming badly mannered British kids whose parents had no control of them and the hotel had no regulations with regards to this.
Breakfast was excellent, best to get early, good selection of hot and cold food.
We chose to go on Bed and Breakfast as we enjoy eating out and in Pas de La Casa you are spoilt for choice, we ate several times at Chez Paulo's and excellent Portuguese restaurant - Paulo is charming and the food is delicious, we also ate at Chez Gégéne ( next door to Paddy's Irish bar ) again fabulous food and what a laugh the owner is.. and on the last night we ate on the French side at La Grelle a fabulous cheese fondue very reasonably priced., again Portuguese owned, This year we noticed a new tax - service tax, this is added on to your bill and can be either 10-15% of the total, the restaurant must declare this tax beforehand most of the French restaurants charge this so best to check before you go in.
We booked our ski passes directly through the hotel and also our ski classes, the price was the same as offered in the Resort or on the internet, everything was at the reception when we arrived, so this took away some of the hassel, likewise we booked the hotel directly and the price was excellent, we were allocated a lovely room and even got an early check-in. The staff were extremely friendly and very courteous at all times.

This hotel was recommended to us by a couple that had a great holiday so they sold it to us we just had to find it at the right price. The hotel overall is really nice. There are free sweets on the reception desk and in your room. (as well as other usual toiletry freebies) The rooms are a nice size and clean. We didn't have a view from our window, just a rather large icicle.

It snowed lots on our first couple of days so we were really lucky with the snow and then it was lovely and sunny the rest of the time. REMEMBER TO PUT SUN CREAM ON YOUR FACE EVEN IF IT IS CLOUDY!!! I got panda eyes the one day I forgot! ha ha.

Not much in the way of shopping and with the euro rate is was quite expensive for shops and restaurants and bars. We had half board so I would recommend the same. I agree with the review saying that the bar is really smoky and it was due to this that we only went in once. Also that the nursery slope is a fair trek and in the ski boots its really hard work. I wouldn't recommend this hotel (as nice as it was) to anyone who doesn't like walking up hills. There is a small walk up hill to it which with all your kit is hard work. However if you are a skier or snowboarder the access to the slopes is great so the hill is not an issue because you can ski/board straight down however as we were beginners this wasn't possible therefore having to walk to the nursery slope.

I will definitely stay there again. I can't wait to go back. If I could afford to I'd be back next week! The food was nice, plenty of choice of mains and desserts! There was a really nice custard dessert and a coconut one too!!!! There are salads, meats and pastas and chips are on every night too (for the fussy eaters). The service was a bit hit and miss, sometimes instant service for drinks and other times had to wait a little while.

The swimming pool and Jacuzzi needs some work doing on it. The swimming pool needed cleaning out and a few tiles sticking back on and the Jacuzzi was broken. Although we still used it as the deep hot water was great on the aching tired and hurting body after a days skiing/boarding!!

There are storage lockers for all your ski kit and snowboard kit which is downstairs in the car park and you rent a pad lock and key for 20euro which you get back when returning the padlock.

Overall a Great Holiday and a really nice hotel!

Just come off the slopes after a hard days skiing. Weather is perfect and anyone coming out will not be dissapointed. The hotel exceeded our expectations, having stayed at some pretty grotty hotels. The rooms are spacious, clean and the bathroom is really nice (and plenty of hot water!!!). The food is plentiful, although I have an allergy, there is a good alternative. The lounge-bar area is really comfortable. If you are a skier, it is a short walk (3mins) walk through the cutway and onto the slopes.

Now the downside (there´s always one) It is a real trek to the nursery slopes. But the biggest negative for us is the the lounge-bar area and the bars in the evenings, if you like sitting in a smoke fuelled room then this is the place for you. Unfortunately, Andorra hasn´t banned smoking in public places. I´m not one of those boring people who hates smokers, it´s just that all the Spanish-French are chain smokers and it doesn´t make pleasant drinking sessions!!!!

But heyho the skiing is excellent. Thinking of getting a last minute in March.

Happy Skiing

after reading the reviews on trip advisor me and my girlfriend booked the himalia rather than the magic which was suggested to us by friends because it had a pool and was away from the town centre noise at night.

the room was clean but the heat on the first floor was unreal, it was like living on the sun! the pool, jacuzzi and sauna were really good and just what you need when coming off the slopes( no one uses it so get it to yourself most of the time). food was fine but like any buffet abroad, if you are a fussy eater you wont like it.

hotel is yards away from access to the slopes so its just a case of pop your skis/board on and ride down to the chairlifts. also there is a handy locker room at the bottom of the hotel for your equipment and free internet access.

overall i enjoyed the holiday staying at the himalia so i hope this helps you.
