“Poor conditions for that price”

It's really too expensive for what you get in the end.

The rooms, and the bathroom is basically cleaned, and the privates are not bad.

Breakfast is included but don't expect too much, it's really small.

But what I hated the most about this place was the receptionist.
Always ''super busy'' and extremely unfriendly. You couldn't get some useful informations from him, they were either wrong or he had no clue about whats going on in San Marcos.

Hot water is only sometimes available, most of the time, it's really super cold, so make sure to take a shower in the morning, unless you don't have to wait ages to get into the communal bathroom...

Room Tip: All rooms are the same.

We had some bad suprises here. First of all, Q200 per night for a room is way above Guatemala average. The prices on the website and the ones in the room are not true. After asking about the price, they told us various reasons, never the less, way too much money what you get for. For that price I would expect much more.

Only a very basic room, only one combined shower/toilet for a lot of rooms. In the afternoon we never had water. Other hostels in that pricerange in San Marco have a watertank. At two out of four nights we didn't have water until the next morning. Sometimes it wasn't possible to go to toilet because of the missing water.

There is no nice relaxing Area to lay down in the garden or similar. It is not possible to use the kitchen and the beer is at restauran niveau.

I stayed here for three night and I really enjoyed sleeping and waking up here. They have good breakfast choices included with your stay. They have a good restaurant onsite. I will definitely stay here again when I come back to San Marcos la Laguna, if they have rooms available.

My wife and I stayed at Hostel San Marcos a few weeks back and overall it was great. The room was basic, but clean and it had a nice bed with a small table. It was also very reasonably priced for the location. The manager at the time we were there, Stuart, was a great host. Extremely attentive to our needs, good to chat to and he made an excellent Cuba libra.

we checked into this hostel and the smell of urine was extensive in the area as we approached our room. The bathroom was down 2 huge steps onto raw/rough concrete floor. There was water all around the toilet area and I think the toilet seal had broken. The host said it was fine. It appeared as though the grey water from the sinks drained into a concrete trough that ran the length of the sidewalks to the rooms. Our bed was a spongy flop and we felt the room was somewhat dirty. We laid down to rest before heading out for the day and could not rest due to the overwhelming smell. We then went out and found another hotel and came back to inform the host. He was very accommodating and we did not have to pay. The host stays back at the bar and smokes cigarettes. The smoke stays contained under the ceiling and hangs into the surrounding eating and lounging areas.

This is one of the cheapest options in San Marcos. We paid 150 Q for a doble with bathroom, breakfast is included and is quiet good ( is at restaurante fe,just around from the hostel, and you have the choice of eggs, pancakes or oats).
The rooms are basic, and you can hear your neighbors talking as the walls are wood, but it's pretty quiet . good people working and staying there as well.

It seems as though a lot of the other reviews were expecting champagne on a beer budget.

We were happy with out stay here, it was comfortable enough despite the lukewarm showers and patchy wifi/electricity (all standard for a small town in Guatemala).

Q100 for a shared bathroom or Q150 with a private. Prices include breakfast which is decent.
