Posada del Bosque Encantado
Reviewed February 5, 2012

We landed up in San Marcos late in the evening and the room at del Bosque was just the thing we were looking for. A bit on the pricey side for backpackers, but the owner cut us a sweet deal and we couldn't ask for more. Awesome location, just 3 rooms, and the loft is perfect! Make sure you stick around for the breakfast.

I spent one night here and found it to be a nice enough place to stay. It's a lovely location with a wooded area in front of the rooms. I was concerned that the door did not seem to lock from the inside, although there was a sliding lock mechanism (like on a bathroom door). The compound is locked at night, and some of the staff live on site, so I didn't feel too worried, but would have liked a better lock. The room was fine and the bed was comfortable. I wish I had brought earplugs as it was quite noisy--a birthday party in the cafe in the evening, dogs at night, and roosters in the morning.

THe staff were friendly and helpful, and the location is a good one, near the restaurants and yoga centers in San Marco.

Terry's place is delightful. We had great food and hot showers. It is right in the middle of a very eclectic community. I felt very secure staying there.

Wow, what good value. Huge clean space, only 3 rooms so great sense of privacy. Great service and comfort with lovely cafe on the premises. As a single woman I felt very secure staying here, extended my stay to 10 days. Wonderful owner Terry was an absolute delight and very helpful. Highly recommend as a place to stay and great location.

Awesome place to stay: the room are spacious, really good value for money and very well-decorated. Each room ahs a mezzanine so it really feels big. We had the pleasure to meet the owner, Terry, as we were hanging out on the terrace. She has been in the country for ever, and has so much to share about it. She is also an amazing singer/guitare player if you get a chance to catch her with her guitare. Staying there and getting to know her was really one of the highlights of this trip. The only downside was the rooster waking us up early morning!

This is a nice small 4 room hotel with lofts. Each room has free water nice beds....The beds were really nice.
Rooms are clean as well as the bathrooms.
The hot water shower was not hot it is a head first shower....Kind of cold.
The grounds are a nice and clean.
The staff is very nice as well.
The cafe on the grounds was closed...might be off season.
They did make us tea...but it was 10Q a cup, kind of a lot for a tea bag. Tea in most places was 5Q.
The travel book said hammocks all over the place but they only have 4 and they are the chair kind...I hate them.
They did have rocking chairs that made up for the hammocks.

My adult son and I were traveling around Guatemala for two weeks. It was a short amount of time and we wanted to fit as much in as possible. Some friends from home had stayed at Bosque Encantado in the summer and asked if we would deliver some gifts to Cecelia and her children. We thought we would deliver the gifts and then move on. The welcome we got was so warm and the room so wonderful that we ended up spending six days there! Cecilia, the manager, made sure that we had everything we needed and invited us to seek her out at any time if we needed help with anything. Her charming daughter,ten-year old Luna, is fluent in three languages and frequently helped me with my stammering Spanish. Their gracious hospitality will stay with us forever. On our last day there, the owner, Terry, returned from traveling so we had a chance to meet her as well. She was equally gracious and welcoming. This small hotel of three quiet and exceptionally clean rooms in an attractive garden is an amazing deal. The creative architecture of the garden walls, gates and the structures themselves are works of art. There are numerous small cafes right out the gate and down the path in either direction for breakfast, lunch or dinner. If we had 5 stars to choose from to rate this place we would cut and paste 5 more to give it 10!
