A friend and I came to do a few days of windsurfing, and we ended up staying for 10. Great food, great beer, great rooms, and most notably, great hosts! JP, Jules, and Mason took care of us like family.

We stayed in one of the spacious apartment suites, with a beautiful lake view from our patio. We windsurfed with Tom, who runs a fantastic shop just down the road (much more reasonably priced than Tico Wind and better for beginners).

What an awesome place! We will certainly be back.

We stopped here after we saw the brewery signs and we were really glad we did. What was intended to be a quick stop turned into several hours. The beer was great, food spectacular, and staff extremely friendly. If we didn't have reservations somewhere else, would have stayed here for a while. They helped me locate my lost camera and arrange for it to be brought to my next destination. Thank you!

Also a great place for kids, my 5 year old enjoyed looking at pigs, cows, and running around...

We loved this place! It has a very laid back atmosphere and we felt instantly welcome and at home. The people there were very friendly and helpful. I appreciated the "green" philosophy and education that they practice and promote. Our 14 year old son tried to wear out the pool table. My husband really enjoyed the beer. We all loved the meals that we had there. The view of the lake and kite boarders is fabulous! The rooms were basic, but had everything you need. It felt safe and like a community. There is a waterfall that is about a 30 minute drive away that is a great place to hike and swim. Ask JP for directions. The staff there made our trip to the Arenal area a real pleasure! We would definitely return and have recommended it to our friends.

Thanks Jean. We're so glad you stayed and enjoyed Lake Arenal Hotel. Thanks for your feedback-- we are upgrading the rooms as well, with new 400-count sheets and nice thick towels. Looking forward to the next time!

What an awesome place to stop at for a day to enjoy the food, beer and people. If your into adventure, stay longer and check out the full size cement skateboard park or world-class kiteboarding and windsurfing at the lake in front of hotel...loved it!

We loved the place, the people, the stunning architecture, the décor, the ambiance in the dining area and the brew pub setting with fabulous views of the lake and hills. Beautiful pool area. Great space for an event or group get-together. Staff was very kind and helped us to de-stress after a 10 hour drive. We were stuck for a place to stay as the neighbouring B&B we booked was closed. They gave us samples of the two beers they brew to help us decide our preference. Dinner was delicious. We found our room to be very basic with painted cement floors but otherwise was a very enjoyable stay. We will definitely be back!

Hello and thanks for your review! We're glad you came, and even more happy that you'll come back to Lake Arenal Hotel! Just so folks know we're not totally roughin' it here, our cement floors were made with natural ochre powders sifted into the concrete while it was still wet, and then highly polished to a sheen--they were built to last more than 20 years ago (it was fun coming up with the designs). They can be a little cool to the footsies though (so slippers are nice). We will soon be posting more photos of the original frescos too--which are actually painted into the plaster walls....thanks again and pura vida!

We didn't stay at this property, but saw the sign for their microbrewery when we were driving by. We stopped in for a beer, and they had a beautiful view of Lake Arenal from the restaurant/bar area. The staff were very friendly - pointing out a Tucan in the tree to everyone in the bar area, and the service was quick and friendly. The two beers they brew there were incredible - my preference was the Dark Ale over the IPA... but it took me awhile to decide after I was given samples of each. Worth a stop!

A very pretty spot to stay overnight while touring around Lake Arenal. You can watch the kiteboarders from the balcony if you don't want to drive to the kiting beach. The craft beer is a real treat and rare to find in Costa Rica. The change of names is rather confusing - I've seen it called Minoa, Lake Arenal, Huerta... They are all the same place and always good! How about a simple "Lake Arenal Brewery Hotel"?

Room Tip: The garden side is less windy. This end of Lake Arenal has consistent winds (hence the kiteboarding...

Thanks LC, we appreciate you writing here and helping us reach more folks who might enjoy this establishment! We have indeed changed the name a few times and understand it's been confusing! Jean Paul has been working hard on the Green Program (teaching college students about sustainable practices and green entrepreneurship) so we leased the hotel to Volcano Brewing Company for two years. After we took the hotel back last fall, we briefly called it Hotel Minoa-- until we found another Hotel Manoa on the other side of the lake-- no bueno! So yes, we agree, this is better: We are now called Lake Arenal Hotel and Brewery (and the restaurant is called La Huerta, which is owned and operated by Marcos Vega). Check us out on facebook too. Thanks again!
