Owner description: Most towns and cities have a durbar, or central, square. Patan's is comparatively quiet, surrounded by peaceful palace courtyards, shops and pagoda temples.

Patan is much smaller than Kathmandu, so is its Durbar Square. It's very to walk around, although foreigns have to pay around 9 dollars to go in. I definetely recommend the Patan Museum, with lots of religious master pieces. Besides, it explains very clearly and detailed the hinduism deities and buddhism religion.

I loved the surrounding. I could see lots of effort for maintaining the part of history. However, harassment from street sellers was way too annoying. Something must be done otherwise the whole experience becomes bitter.

Worth a look - it cost RS500 just to walk in (locals don't have to pay) and you have to wear a yellow receipt round your neck which is a huge advertisement to all the "official guides" who are keen to show you around. The buildings are beautiful, but crumbling into disarray, and you tend to get approached by people wanting money from you! Nice trinkets to pick up on the stalls set up in the square and good photo opportunities with the old buildings, but considering you have to pay to get in, you receive no map or any information about the buildings so you come away unsure of what you have just seen. (Unless you are willing to pay someone to tell you).

Excellent place, with excellent buildings and excellent people. We went there walking from thamel (we love walking but it is too lngtoget there) you should take a taxi or may be a tour because it wasn't so easy to find all the buildings by ourselves, but we did it and enjoy it. You hace many restaurants around, but not so typical... May be because in Nepal they are not used to eat in restaurants? Lovely peolple!

spent an afternoon walking around the area, seeing alot of interesting sight, especially very different from home. I was at the square for the whole afternoon, sitting around at a corner can gives you quite some story. Architure here are also quite interesting to watch, those red bricks and wood carving are some amazing work.
