Club Himalaya
Ranked #1 of 16 Hotels in Nagarkot
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed January 10, 2013

Club Himalaya is without doubt the most comfortable place to stay in Nagarkot. That said, you don't come to Nagarkot for the comfort; you come for the jaw-dropping vistas of the mountains. From Club Himalaya, whose website shows some magnificent photo-shopped pictures, you have a great view of the mountains…rising above the hill to the north where the hotels with the uninterrupted views are. The heating is very welcome, and the food can be good; but when we asked about options for our son, who has food allergies, we were told that nothing could be done. "That's not much." we said; "Yes", said the waitress. The pool is nice, but only the spa portion is heated, so only three people (on good terms) at a time can enjoy it. Stay elsewhere, on the north side of Nagarkot. There's nothing ~wrong~ with Club Himalaya; but for less than a quarter of the price you can enjoy uninterrupted views and equally good food (but not the heating). Unkai resort, Nagarkot farmhouse… much more highly recommended.

Room Tip: Fishtail room, if you want to stay there.

Dear guest,
Thank you for taking the time and writing us a review. Thank you for your positive remarks: that it is the most comfortable place in Nagarkot, great view of the mountains, the food, heating & the pool.
I am deeply sorry to hear the way the waitress handled your concern regarding your son’s food allergy. I spoke to the waitress myself. Despite our continued staff training sometimes some issues are beyond their understanding due to their own culture, lack of exposure to such issues and level of English. Since the waitress was a new staff she was unaware. Believe it or not food allergies in Nepal are rare or perhaps unidentified due to lack of awareness. We have taken this as an opportunity to inform and educate all staff regarding how serious food allergies can be and what it really means.
Everybody including travel reviews, claim that our views and service is unparalleled to other hotels in Nagarkot. Having said that yes, there are many other places that can satisfy the needs of different travelers. We will continue to strive to improve and up our service experience so guests can experience hospitality second to none.
Thank you.

Best,

Pam Sakya

We stayed in Club Himalaya during the peak season and everything seem to be perfect. We stayed in the new building where we could see the sun rise from our room. The other facilities seemed great too except the spa which disappointed us. There was only one bed in a small room in the basement and we were five people in the group. We thought to avail the spa facility as we were going to a resort but none of us could do it. The food taste good but less variety. The room had time for load shedding and availability of hot water. Apart from the few things its situated in a nice place and the small things in the room will make anyone happy. The decor was excellent. I will recommend this to friends.

Room Tip: New building at one or two flights up for better view of sun rise.

Even though this is a modest hotel it is the best in the village. Don't take me wrong, the hotel is very nice, but if you are used to luxury hotels, this one is a lot more casual.
The view from the rooms and the terrace is beautiful, Dress warm because can get chilly. (low of 35 F in Winter)

Room Tip: I believe all rooms have a great view.

We travelled to Nagarokot as soon as we arrive in Kathmandu... We stayed for 2 nights. We arrived late evening after an hour + journey from Kathmandu. As it was a busy period, it took us a while to check-in but the we were welcomed with a nice hot drink and we had WIFI..free of course in the lobby... We were given very pretty rooms with views of the himalayan range. The room is spacious, has heater..which we need because its really cold out there, nice balcony, water pressure was excellent, bathroom amenities was excellent.. bed is comfy, pillows are superb and it has TV, candles, torchlight in case of a blackout.. and i must that the power supply was disrupted a couple of times but the back up power came on seconds... thumbs up..
the food was good.. not fantastic but sufficient... we had dinner at the hotel itself, there aren;t places outside really... breakfast was the same food for two days.. that needs an improvement.. otherwise its perfect. Everyone wakes up early to catch sunrise from the roof top and the hotel serves warm tea between 6.30 to 7.30 am at the roof top for those who wish to see the sunrise. The sunrise is amazingly pretty and we can see the mountain tops so clearly on a clear day which we did see on the 2nd day only... 1st day was too foggy...

We also did the 4 hour+ trek to Changu Narayan temple from the Hotel.. It was an amazing feat walking through villages and homes and farmland.. we enjoyed our trip to Nagarkot. Highly recommended to stay at Club Himalaya.

Room Tip: Rooms with the view of the Himalayan Range are the best especially high floors.

We arrived at Kathmandu Thribuvan international airport..and booking for hotel pick up with extra charge USD 35, The hotel staff is easily spotted and nice to chat with.
Arrived at hotel after one hour drive and i can say the hotel is the only the best in Nagarkot. We stay at a new wings,The view from the room is superb, all rooms with balcony, very clean, very modern. and electricity supply for 24 hours(as you know most of Nepal is power cut at night).its very important to look for a hotel with heater that ON at night time especially on a winter time 0 degree! . or you will feel sleep like on the freezer.
For food im not recommend hotel restaurant,as its a buffet cost 1000++NPR per person. The alternative is you can go to Tea House next to the hotel 5 min walk for ala carte menu.fried rice, fried noodles,Momo or other western food and the price is reasonable.
in the morning you can shoot/see sunrise just infront of ur balcony or you can rent a car from hotel cost 1000NPR go to VIEWING TOWER for more AWESOME view for sunrise and mountain.
The hotel is expensive, but worth it if u come with family and need 24hour power supply and want to sleep in a warm and comfy room.

Room Tip: Pay extra to stay at the new wing, its worth it!

Fresh air, great views, excellent food, clean rooms, relaxing and friendly. After 3 weeks traveling around Nepal this was a great way to end our journey. Would recommend it.
We got the local bus to tel kot and walked down the ridge to the oldest temple in Nepal. Well worth visiting.

Room Tip: We stayed in the new block both visits

Point of advice # 1: Get out of Kathmandu as fast as possible! This is a very good way to pass a day around but not in the smog-choked city of Kathmandu if you have to spend a day there.

The hotel arranged a car and drive for us, and the driver was a very nice retired policeman who we really liked. THe agents at the airport, however, we just a bunch of scam artists trying to milk tourists. The Hotel's guy who met us told us to tip the person who dragged our bags 20m and when I pulled out my money he pointed at a 1000 rupee note (about $12) saying "That one is appropriate." Fat chance. Generally, when you land in Nepa, be ready for everybody to try to take advantage of you and want something from you - it's really off-putting.

The ride to the hotel is about 1:20 through the streats of Kathmandu, which are, to say the least, dirty, loud, and crowded. From Kathmandu, you ascend of to Nagar Kot on a one (ish) lane paved road, which we found to be more than comfortable and adequate so long as your driver isn't a maniac (ours on the way up wasn't, on the way down - well, we had some doubts).

Club Himalaya itself sits on a ridgeline at about 7,200 feet. It is set up for panoramic views of the himalayas, although when we visited in late December there was so much smog in the air of the Kathmandu basin that we could only occasionally see the mountains during the day. The air cleared up a bit in the evening and the views improved, but it was still by no means "clean mountain air." In december, the weather in nepal is cold but generally clean (excluding smog everywhere). Bringa good coat because you will want it at night, but the days are really quite pleasant and sunny.

The rooms are newly-done and nice. They have good showers and nice beds (a pair of singles in our case - i don't know if they have anything bigger) with nice comforters and a good heater. While not a luxury resot by any means, this is still very nice, especially considering where it is. Power in Nepal is not an all-day thing, so you do need to be conscious of the times for power and hot water, but if you do that you will be fine. Make sure you get an East-Facing room as the sunrises are spectacular over the Himalayas (smog does help here).

Those looking for a little physical activity can walk up the hill for about 40 min to the highest point of the hills, which has a great view of Kathmandu and the Himalayas, smog permitting. In late December, this was only half-visible, but stilla good walk. Beyond that, though, I'm not too sure what you do up there except get a driver/guide to take you down the hill to the East and further into the mountains for more walking.

The main hotel area has the bar and dining room. Dinner and Breakfast are buffet style and adequate, but nothing to write home about. The main area also has wifi, which is nice.

Room Tip: Ask for an East-facing room no matter what it takes. The sunrise over the Himalayas is spectacular.
