We wandered into Gene's because a colleague had mentioned barbecue was available - and what a place! Let's call it 'rustic' - it's well worn, but that's the charm. However, this place is all about the food. It was just awesome.
For $5.99 I had the daily special - four pork ribs (huge ribs) and cole slaw and potato salad, and it was superb. The menu is huge - variety is everything, from catfish to steaks, ribs, barbecue plates, breakfasts - you name it, they seem to have it.
The prices are wonderful - the place is inexpensive, food is amazing, ambiance is nothing, and I can't wait to return. I actually did go back the next day and it was as good the second time. I can recommend this place to anyone wanting a really good meal. It's all about the food.
Brinkley is a town of 4,000 people 80 miles east of Little Rock and is an agricultural town with a lot of boarded up buildings - not much going on. But this restaurant is a bright spot.
