This was a specific destination for me and my husband. It was well worth the 250+ mile drive. We had done some pre trip reading and
talked with friends who had been there. We were not disappointed in any way. We found the staff and volunteers friendly, cordial and very helpful. We enjoyed both lunch and dinner at "Elevan" the restaurant very much. Lunch is casual and requires standing in line to order food which is then delivered to your table. In the evening, white table lines are placed on the tables and service is provided. The food was excellent and fairly priced. The venue is beautiful.
The art is all American and arranged chronologically. The gift shop is full of wonderful items ranging in prices from inexpensive to very expensive. There is something for everyone.
We are very fortunate to have this gem of art here in the Midwest.

Attendants were rude and uptight. No place to sit and take in the art. Nudes in every room. Childrens' hands-on room hard to find and not worth getting to.

I spent over an hour in the museum. It was smaller than I had expected, but I enjoyed the variety of artwork it had to offer. I would return to see additional exhibits. The museum store is nice too. They have a lot of interesting books and unique pieces of art to purchase.

We went to this museum on our way through Arkansas. It was a very worthwhile stop and amazing that it is free! It was a beautiful setting with the wooded area. We were impressed with the facilities--architecture, organization, etc. We were also impressed with all the friendly workers who were there to welcome us and to lend assistance when needed. As we worked our way through the exhibits, they started with older art--1700s and worked up to more recent art. It was interesting reading about details that defined that era of art. There were several interesting pieces as we worked our way through. We could have spent more time looking, but we wanted to get to the outside to explore the grounds. It was a gorgeous day and we enjoyed walking several of the trails. This museum and grounds is quite a crowning achievement for the area.
