I am not much of a museum person but really have enjoyed Crystal Bridges a couple of different times. The architecture is art as much as the art itself. It's a fascinating place. If you go in the summer make sure to give yourself plenty of time because you will also want to walk the grounds.
One thing I found interesting was the lack of religious art, I only noticed one religious piece in the entire museum. I think it would be difficult to purchase American art and not have a good mix of religious art as that was such a large part of the art world over the last 2 centuries.
