All major cities in the country have art museums but one hardly expects to find one in rural Arkansas! The money we have been spending at Wal-mart for the last few decades has yielded a surprising benefit: a first-class art museum in the wooded Ozark hills. Alice Walton has built an amazing structure and filled it with examples of art from all over America, from all periods of American history.
This is a must-see for those who appreciate either art OR history!
The local lodging and dining are much less expensive than in other large cities, but it is a bit out of the way. Sorry about that....

We are amazed to have such a venue (literally) in our backyard. The Bentonville community welcomed us as one of their own when we moved here six years ago -- out of town guests will experience the same. We still can't decide which is the greatest treasure, the building and grounds or the ever- growing collection of great American art.

Thank You, Alice Walton, for this gift to our country. My six year old daughter is benefits from the children's art activities and the above quote is attributed to her. Thanks, Melba Shewmaker, for honoring Jack's memory in a way that will continue to inspire children of all ages.

We are very much looking forward to the Norman Rockwell exhibit this year.

First visit was preview night in November with couples, second visit January with family and this week to the Wednesday night Wine Event. I feel so lucky to live closeby so I can participate in many events. Of course there is the Amazing Art and Architecture, but what I am enjoying is guest imvolvement from the youngest pre-school programs to Adults only nights. I didn't post alot of pictures even though pictures (without a flash) are allowed. You need to see in Crystal Bridges in person. Late afternoon is a great time so that you can experience it in daylight and dusk..check hours on the website..

Just getting started but already has large dcollection of art, mostly paintings. Spend LOTs of time in the first couple of exhibits looking at the older stuff. I did not enjoy the contemporary as much. Rosie The Riveter in all of her majesty is something to behold!! Take time to just look at the building and tour the grounds.
