Owner description: When Sam Walton opened his 5&10 on the Bentonville town square in 1950, he had no idea he'd planted the seeds for what would become the global leader in retail, saving millions of people money so they could live better. Today, that humble little dime store is the location of The Walmart Museum. A family-friendly experience in 3 parts, the Museum features a world-class exhibit gallery, Walton's 5&10, and The Spark Cafe. Monday - Thursday: 8:00 a.M. - 9:00 P.M. Friday - Saturday: 8:00a.M. - 10:00P.M. Sunday: 12:00 p.M. - 9:00 P.M.

Loved the square where the building is located. The old photos and exhibits in the museum were very much like things I remembered from growing up in Arkansas in part of this era. The video told us alot that we didn't know about the early stages of Walmart and Mr. Sam. Nicely done and it was adding a new area when we were there.

Regardless of your feelings toward Wal-Mart, this is a fun little spot to visit. It is free and has convenient hours. The gift shop has lots of fun toys and novelties that bring back a five and dime nostalgia, and the cafe offers treats at low prices. The museum itself is small but interesting. The highlights for me were Sam Walton's office, a display about Wal-Mart's liberal return policy (the mixer that was returned because it was "possessed" is my personal fave), and the old packaging on displayed products from years ago. If you're in the area, you've got nothing to lose but a few minutes, so why not check it out?

Sam Walton's story is the classic American tale, so why not check out the back story? Of course it's marketing for Walmart, but that doesn't mean it's not interesting to see how the empire was built.

This is the 5 & 10 cent store that was the original store of Sam Walton on the town square. There is a museum inside and Sam Walton's office. Amazing to see how one dime store turned into a world wide retail giant through the years. Very interesting. The dime store carries new oldstyle games and toys.

The visitor center is in downtown Bentonville, on the square. It is a small place, and it is filled with items from the past of the Walton family business. You can take a stroll through here and see many items that you will remember from your youth. Not a place to spend a lot of time, but it is worth seeing. When you are finished, there is a gift shop where you can buy items with the Walmart logo, for the Walmart shopper in your family. Small children will like the toys in the gift shop more than the inside rooms. This is not an exciting place, but it is interesting for adults. It is an American success story, laid out in a few rooms...from one small store to the worlds largest retailer !
