Easy access with a real, authentic taste of the old west! Your imagination will run wild when you visit this old prison. You will have a good appreciation of the "natural," air conditioning that the prisoners enjoyed.

We took the self guided tour of this historical site. It was everything I could have asked for. The site is well signed and easy to navigate; the staff helpful, interested and enthusiastic. Even the old west shoot-out skit was well presented. I came away from the experience thinking that the prisoners of the day certainly paid the price for their crimes and this facility might provide a useful model to today's criminals. Too bad we can't go back to this type of prison for our modern day crooks!

A self guided tour through the old prison is a step back in History. Since the City of Yuma have taken the management back from the State, there has been a few changes in the displays. A little cleaner, a little more organized. The signs and pictures are very well done. The museum of items that were in use in the prison is very well displayed. It's amazing that after all the years the old prison was left open, and used for other things, even the Yuma High School for awhile, the original condition has been well maintained. It's a visit no one will forget.

We were in Yuma to meet some family from SoCal. While we were there we decided to tour the prison museum. It was outstanding. We took one of the tours offered by the volunteers and learned a lot about the history of the prison and Yuma. The conditions in the prison were pretty rough. Maybe that would work today too! My wife does not usually like museums or historical sites, but she liked it a lot too. I would definitely recommend a visit if you are in the vicinity.

We visited the Prison and were very impressed with all the history this place had to share with us. The staff was very helpful and friendly ( Especially Louie ) and the place is immaculately clean. There are facilities and wheelchair access with lots of parking. The $6.00 fee to get in is very reasonable and goes to keep the place open. Well worth the stop right off of number 8.
