“A good afternoon”
Reviewed August 22, 2013

A good way to spend an afternoon in Yuma. This is particularly true since there really isn't a whole heck of a lot to do there.

“Good stop”

Worth the time to go through this. A good historical lesson especially for young people who might not be aware of how prisoners were held in that time period.

“Interesting”

Walking around an outside attraction in Yuma, even in March, can be a challenge when the temperature gets up there, so I honestly can’t imagine what being incarcerated in the Yuma Territorial Prison must have been like, and that’s without throwing in the hard labour and poor food.

So it’s to the credit of this museum that it probably comes close to giving the guests a sense of what gaol life was all about. A good option for getting the most out of your visit is to view the short movie, near the entrance. This sets the background. Then view the exhibits, which are photographs, documents, letters, etc, then you’re ready to go outside and wander through the remains of the actual cells.

For me, one hour was sufficient to do a full tour without skipping anything. A good visit for a reasonable fee.

“Yes worth the tour”
Reviewed July 31, 2013

Worth a trip. Very interesting and historic. You can just imagine how awful it was for these prisoners when you see the terrible cages and holes which they lived in. Gave a new image for solitary confinement to say the least.... Would not bring smaller children as I spent lots of time reading and pondering...

“History comes alive”

This is a beautiful park and a very educational tour. I highly recommend it. The park is a nice place to look over the Yuma Valley by the Colorado River and the tour through the prison is very educational. A visit inside one of the cells reminds you not to break the law for sure.
The gift shop has some great items also. This is a great place to take friends and family when they visit Yuma
