“Great riding and a very relaxing stay”
Reviewed June 16, 2013

Stagecoach Trails guest ranch is a beautiful and quiet getaway. The family who built it, obviously put a lot of thought and care into it, and it is a comfortable, welcoming place. You can be a social as you want, participate in the small events in the evenings (like card games, horseshoe pitching), or just enjoy a glass of wine with your loved one on the patio.

The rooms are large and comfortable. There is no housekeeping during your stay (at least not for only four nights), but you can of course exchange your towels for new ones if you like. As others have mentioned, don't expect luxury, but good quality and innkeepers that truly care that you have an enjoyable stay. Bob the cook is great about catering to special dietary requests.

This is the fourth guest ranch we have stayed on, and we both think that the horseback riding at Stagecoach Trails is the best we have experienced so far. The wranglers take out small groups of guests on rides that are suitable for the riding experience in each group. If there are only two absolute beginners, then those two get their own group - or at least they did during our visit. We only get to ride very occasionally, so we were feeling a bit rusty at the start. Tex was great at getting us into it again and we soon felt comfortable on the loping rides. They do the loping parts of the rides in dry, sandy creeks.

Our stay was in mid-May, and the weather was too hot for the longer rides, except one afternoon when it cooled off enough to do a beautiful two hour ride. We would like to return during the cooler season to have a chance for more of the longer rides.

The only thing we missed was a guest laundry. There is a lot of trail dust and a loping ride is quite a workout for the rider too. After staying four nights, we really needed to do a batch of laundry. Washing jeans by hand is not convenient.

Make sure you fill up your gas tank before you head for the ranch. It is in a remote location and the gas station in nearby Yucca is closed.

Wow, what can you say about this place? Well to start with, don't expect 5 star luxury in all departments. What you do get however, is clean, comfortable accommodation, good home cooking, relaxation by the pool, two horse rides a day, stunning scenery and come away knowing that you have just become part of a new family! We had never ridden before and were a bit nervous but by the end of our 4 days, we were trotting and loping without fear. For that we must thank our two wranglers Craig and Tex (proper cowboys!) who were brilliant trainers and a good laugh as well! and our horses which included wrangler, brim, pride, chief and hass, amongst others. We had eight rides in all and each was was on a different trail, with differing terraine.
We were the last to leave before their month long shut down, so it was a bit quiet for the last day or two, but what hotel owners do you know that invite you to sit down and play cards with them and their family and have a good laugh late into the evening. So thanks to the owners Carrie and Dan, and Amy for really making us welcome.
The food was awsome. Good home style cooking. Each breakfast, lunch and dinner was different. Great job Bob!(the cook) Soft drinks including lemonade, orange, water, tea and coffee are available 24/7 from machines in the dining room, but if you want beer,or any form of alcohol, you will need to bring your own.
Thanks also to Alan, who welcomed us and showed us around and was always up for a chat.

STGR simply cannot be beaten, either for the riding/cowboy experience, or for the people you will meet. Our 4 days and nights here last week will live long in the memory. Ian and Sue x

Room Tip: All the rooms are the same, except for two larger family rooms.

This was the first time we have stayed on a ranch and we had a great time. It was the first time either my wife and I had ever even ridden a horse, but we had nothing to worry about as it worked out fine. The ranch itself looks like its been picked up straight from a western movie set and used as a guest ranch. Its clean and tidy in the bedrooms as well as the public areas. There is coffee and soft drinks on tap 24/7 in the dining room. The staff are friendly and the food is good. Our wrangler was Henry and a nicer guy you could never meet. We also went out with Tex who knew all there was to know about wrangling. Craig seemed to be the strong cowboy type who doesn't say too much.... Bob the chef made good home cooked food.
To sum up our stay-Great place, nice people and good food. We had a memorable time that we will never forget.

Room Tip: Any room as they are all the same. We had room 8

We absolutely loved our stay at Stagecoach Trails Guest Ranch. I felt really at home and comfortable here and had such a good time out on the horses. I am a complete beginner at riding but this was not a problem at all and we got straight on to cantering on our second ride. We had considered having a few riding lessons before we went but this was not needed at all. Being from the UK the western saddle riding style is completely different anyway.
We loved our cowboy that took us out on every ride and he had some great stories. It was a bit dissapointing though as we were never at the front of the ride so couldn't always really hear what he was saying. Would have been nice if they'd mixed the order of the riders up a bit from ride to ride. We also didn't get to do a ride out where you have lunch which some other guests got to do...I don't think we were there long enough but I would have loved to do that given the choice.
If you are an experienced rider you may possibly be disappointed as you get the horses are kind of on automatic and just do what the lead horse is doing. It was great for me as a beginner as it made me feel like a pro!
I notice on here someone complained that there were no hard hats available - there are you just have to ask for them.
If you want to wear a cowboy hat make sure you take one with strings that you can tie on or your not allowed to wear it.
All in all we loved this place, one of the highlights of my 3 week drive in Western USA.

What a wonderful escape from my busy life. No TV or Internet, but beautiful scenery, quiet, good food and great new friends. And, of course, you can forget Tex and Craig the trail guides. They are great with novice riders. I mistakenly got on a more experienced ride and "learned" to gallop. It was scary but fun and Tex made sure I was safe.
If you go from Phoenix, take the back road from Wikeup and save 80 miles and at least an hour drive.
Would go back in a heartbeat.

The brochure says it all! Everything in there is just as they say or even better. All the rooms are clean, roomy and have a special Western The home made family style meals are really delicious but better take a walk afterwards or you will need to really hit the gym when your get home! The ranglers are friendly, knowledgeable and will work hard to match you with just the right horse. From experienced riders to the beginner, they will make sure that you have a great trail ride. You really get your money's worth at the ranch. We have been there 23 times and would not keep returning if it wasn't great ! Lots for everyone to do, or just sit around the pool and spa and chill out.

Room Tip: All are great. Have stayed in all of them and never found one that had any issues. Some have tubs...

Craig was our wrangler, he was awesome....Bob the new cook made these amazing cinnamon croissants...yum. The scenery was gorgeous. Our favorite was just after dinner sitting in the courtyard. Ed would light the lanterns and the calm peaceful conversation was so nice. We'd watch the stars come out and the sky is just amazing. We had a fire the last night in the fire pit and that was icing on the cake. We loved the animals, even the dogs...I have a huge soft spot for the newbie Charlie...such a joyful dog. Rico and River the donkeys also held a soft spot in my heart..loved feeding them apples "after working hours" If you're looking for a place to leave it all behind..this is the place.

Room Tip: Sleeping with the fan on will help drown any neighborly noise. We were fine but another couple next...
