“Great experience, great hosts”
Reviewed September 10, 2012

Everyone says the same things, and they are all right. Dan and Carrie make you feel at home immediately.

Room - very spacious, with excellent aircon (needed in August!). Furnishings simple, comfortable and very clean. Note that rooms are not serviced daily, but clean towels etc are available whenever you need them.

Food - good home cooking. We had BBQ pork, stuffed peppers and chicken while we were there, all very good. Excellent breakfast and lunch too. Coffee, cold soft drinks and water free and available all day.

Pool - great pool and hot tub.

Riding experience - wonderful! In August they plan short rides early morning and in the evening as it's too hot during the day. We were three riders with experience ranging from almost nil (and nervous having fallen off on a previous ride) to some experience, and we were all given the right horse and ended up loping and really enjoying the rides thanks to the excellent wranglers guiding the rides. Other very experienced riders at the ranch had a great time riding too. They take great care to make sure everyone gets the right program of rides and the right horse.

Welcome - totally genuine. Great family atmosphere in the evening.

Make sure you get STGR's very clear instructions to reach the ranch (they will send them but if not booking direct make sure you visit their website to get directions - satnav will get you badly lost! Allow time, it's about 30 mins from the junction with I-40.

Room Tip: Any room will be good!

Arriving in the states, to get picked up by the ranch owner, just shows how much these people care about hospitality. Dan and carrie truly make you feel part of their family and welcome you into their home. The food is amazing, the accommodation is comfortable and clean and everything you'd want to make you feel part of a proper cowboy ranch! The wranglers are excellent at what they do and are very aware of all riding abilities especially Jeff who has many interesting stories to tell! This very special place will take hold of you and you will be planning your return before you've even left. Thank you to carrie, dan, all the team and the other guests who shared this wonderful time with us...we will be back xxx

This was our first ranching experience, and we were very pleasantly surprised. We were made to feel very welcome, and they try and make a special effort for all guests, including my vegetarian daughter (despite not being told in advance.) Food was very good, and there was plenty of it!
The riding was great fun, with beautiful, well behaved horses.
Jeff the wrangler certainly made it an enjoyable experience for us. Despite the bumpy and uncomfortable 18 mile dirt road to get to the ranch, the journey was well worth it, and we cannot recommend the SCTR highly enough to both experienced, and inexperienced riders.

Thank you so much to Carrie and all the family, who really did make us feel at home!

This was our first visit to the ranch. We took our 2 children aged 15 and 12 and everybody had a fantastic time. The accommodation was rustic and authentic but extremely comfortable. The food was just amazing. The rides were early in the morning and late afternoon and during the day we just relaxed around the pool or playing games in the lounge. The kids had a great time meeting other kids and playing non-electronic games. It was all very relaxing. The atmosphere is very family orientated and overall this was our favourite part of our 2 week road trip. Would recommend it to anyone. You do not have to be a rider.

The worst thing about STGR is the leaving. My family and I have just returned from our 3rd visit and it was amazing.. Carrie greats you with a big smile and shows you round, meal times are courtesy of Tony, the food is fantastic. Dan, Carrie's husband potters around looking after maintenance making sure everything is pristine. Raygan, Tony and Vicky's two year old daughter provides dining room entertainment and sometimes sings. The wranglers look after the superb horses. Guests relax and make friends by the pool, or watching the sun set (spectacular). leaving is a teary affair and to sum up on leaving this time Carrie said I had a special family I replied just like yours that's why we love it here..

Just left SCTR and without doubt it as the best holiday experiance ever.
The staff are the best and Precher Craig is unique! We even got him to take his Stetson off! Tony's cooking is fantastic and even our picky 14 year old ate everything. Cannot recommend it highly enough, we will be back . . . John, Karen, Nathan and Danielle

STGR is a wonderful place if you want to relax, enjoy the American ranch experience, ride horses and meet some friendly people from all over the world. This was our first visit to STGR and we absolutely loved it. The ranch is hidden away from the main roads and settlements but offers a lot of activities. A lot of people were initially put off by the dirt road (circa 20 miles) that leads to the ranch but for us it was not a problem. We actually made several trips to the neighbouring towns and the dirt road didn’t really put us off.

The rides were superb, the Wranglers (Jef and Patrick) were amazing! They really do take you out on some amazing rides and even new riders get to experience canter (loping) once they've been inducted.

The staff are friendly and let you just get on with it. They are very accommodating (for disabled people and people with allergies, vegetarians etc).

We hope that we will visit STGR again soon, even though we have always said that we'd never go back to the same place twice.

p.s if you like exploring you can visit: Kingsman, Lake Havassu, Grand Canyon (South Rim – do not go to the West Rim), Route 66, Flagstaff and more.

We were initially sceptical as there are only excellent reviews, but the ranch lives up to its reviews!
