I received a 2 night stay at the Cherry Creek Lodge from my wife for my 60th birthday. She knows that I like the outdoors yet I don't like "roughing it". The Cherry Creek lodge fit the bill on both accounts. The first thing you discover is the "off the grid" location and the self sustaining facility. Not an overhead power line in sight. The lodge owns or leases plus is surrounded by thousands of acres of pristine Arizona outback. The hills, lots of trees and wonderful creeks run thru the property and offer great hiking, "4 wheelin" and horse back riding. We took the 4 wheel tour from Rick and enjoyed every minute of it.
The lodge is comfortable, well appointed and certainly has the feel of a country lodge. The furniture and furnishings are high end and give you the feeling of comfort and friendliness.
The hosts Holly and Rick are great down to earth people and exude the feeling of "Family".
The meals were great and quite reasonable in cost and they come with great conversation.
We have traveled to many different resorts around the world and found the Cherry Creek Lodge to be a great escape in one of the best places we have been too. If you want sun, fresh air and great friendly staff, this is your place.
This isn't a 5 star hotel but the night sky, friendly people and fresh air make it feel just as good!

- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- The Cherry Creek Lodge (Arizona Guest Ranch)/dude ranch) is part of the Tilting H Ranch -- a working 40,000 acre cattle ranch, set in the heart of the Tonto National Forest along the Mogollon Rim in Arizona. Featured on Arizona Highways TV and on the cover of Arizona Highways Magazine, and listed as the #1 romantic getaway in Sonoran Living. A study in rustic elegance, providing all the modern comforts, while staying true to its working cattle ranch history. Enjoy the accommodations at the lodge - the spacious great hall with its fireplace and leather couches, the supremely comfortable bedrooms, the deck overlooking the lake and the patio with its fire pit. The lodge is the perfect place for a corporate retreat, or a small wedding. Of course, it is also the perfect place to just relax when not out on a cattle drive or on the trail on our well-trained, responsive horses, or taking advantage of the many activities around the ranch, including the roping arena, rifle range, 3-D archery course, sporting clay course, four-wheeling, fishing, hiking and more. It is also rich in old west history and culture - the site of one of the gunfights of the infamous "Pleasant Valley War". (A reenactment of the gunfight was aired on Arizona Highways TV). The war is one the most famous of the range wars in the American West, the subject of a number of nonfiction books, as well as the source of a number novels (including one by Zane Grey) and movie plots. ... more less
