La Posada is an incredible find - if you are going to The Petrified Forest or the Painted Desert or if you just want a fun place to stay outside of Flagstaff this is a must. An old hacienda style building, La Posada dates from the 30's when rail travel was in its hey day. Currently being renovated, the common rooms are huge glorious places filled with art, mission style furniture and Native American and Mexican crafts. The rooms are not exactly deluxe but they are stylish and unique.

This was a pleasant and relaxing oasis on old Route 66. When you drive into Winslow off 40 you just don't expect to see this type of pleasant oasis. I found the whole town charming. I could just imagine it when old Route 66 was booming.

The hotel was absolutely terrific from their customer service to the historic and artistic surroundings. We had a fabulous dinner in their elegant, but kid friendly restaurant. I absolutely could not believe the service and value for the dollar. It was an attraction and hotel in one. We spent at least an hour looking at all the artistic and historical objects and thirty minutes reading about the historical figures that had stayed there. We relaxed in the garden area. It was very relaxing after driving over 2300 miles. It was well situated to the Meteor Crater, Painted Dessert and Petrified Forest attractions. Make sure you have your picture taken at the "standing on the corner" park to commemorate the famous song while you are in Winslow.

We had visited this hotel about a year ago and decided to stay on our way to Santa Fe. This is a treasure with a wonderfully restored building that the owners had saved from destruction. It captures the history of the West and is a pleasure to stay in. The owners wife is a modern artist so the hotel has interesting touches as well as the historic ones. Great rooms, nice touches, beautiful art. Don't miss this special place.

We flew in our Cessna to the historic Lindberg Airport, had lunch at the outstanding mexican restaurant on the runway, walked to the hotel (Cabs are available.) and began the most charming and relaxing weekend we've had in years. Our check-in was completed by a friendly man with a brilliant sense of humor. Our room was spotless and comfortable, in southwest decor. We took the historic tour of the hotel, then sat on the overstuffed couch on the back porch and read books. At 4:30 we enjoyed martinis from the martini bar, then had a truly divine dinner in the restaurant (which has a new menu every night). We watched Amtrak arrive while relaxing in the swinging couch on the lawn, enjoying the sunset in the background. Coffee on the porch in the morning was a pleasant start to the day, and was topped off with breakfast served by a cheerful waitress in Harvey Girl attire. What an amazing and relaxing place. I can't recommend it strongly enough to anyone who wants to step back in time to the most relaxing stay of their year.

We just happened upon La Posada by luck. We were in a souvenir shop in Winslow, standing on the corner, and asked the sales lady where we could get lunch. She suggested the Turquoise Room in this hotel. We were on a side trip from Sedona but had a wonderful lunch and were so smitten with this little gem, we decided to come back and stay overnight. You need to check this hotel out if you are going to be in this area. It is being "rehabilitated" and the history of the hotel is intriguing. Make sure to buy or watch the video they have re the hotel so you can see everything the new owner points out before you go home. We didn't watch the video until we returned home and missed seeing half the things we should have. We hope that we can return here some day and stay longer.

The rooms were built for one bed, we think, but there were 2 doubles in the space so it wasn't particularly roomy but it made up for lack of space in its charm. Every room in the hotel is different. there may have been a TV but it didn't really matter to us and I don't think there was a phone in the room but in 2 weeks, it was the only hotel where we didn't have to have the air conditioner on. We were very comfortable with the cool night air coming in the window.

The food in the Turquoise Room was superb!!

Winslow AZ, is a sleepy city, that has seen better times. However the owners of La Posada are helping to change that. The hotel is a Mary Colter design (she did many of the Grand Canyon bldgs) and has quite a history (www.laposada.org).

We stayed there for one night and totally enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere. When you enter the hotel, you are transported to a more gracious time and place. It is like being the guest of a wealthy Spanish family. The common areas are spacious and airy with many windows and french doors that overlook gardens, trees and even the rail road (which in yrs past brought the visitors to the hotel). The areas are beautifully restored and invite you to linger and relax. The restaurant, The Turquoise Room, is a treat. The dinner menu has a variety of unique and flavorful dishes, including Fried Squash Blossoms (delicious), Piki Bread (native american dish), elk, lamb, salmon, deserts, prickly pear bread pudding (yum!)....for breakfast the potatoes with green peppers were a hit. Although the restaurant has an elegant feel, nice casual travel clothes are fine.

Our room was spacious, comfortable and beautifully decorated with Navajo rugs, baskets and Spanish tile. And although facing the railroad track, was very quiet.

For train buffs, the rail road is great fun. I saw many people sitting in the outdoor patio of La Posada watching the cars go by.

For Eagle fans (Music group) and the song "Take it Easy", the hotel is just a short walk away to shops and a "Standing on the corner in Winslow Arizona..." photo opportunity. Couldn't pass it up.

We wish we had stayed another night.

My wife, dog and I just had a wonderful overnight at this hotel on the way to Grand Canyon. To say it exceeded all our expectations is an understatement. Stayed there originally because it allowed our dog, as many high end establishments are doing throughout the country. But never expected such a delightful experience. We tried to stay there coming back through a week later, but alas they were deservedly full and we had to go on. We are looking for a reason to go back to stay longer.
