My hubby and I have come here several times and have never been dissapointed. There are always new things to see and continued restoration changes. They added a new wing where we stayed this time and LOVED the bathroom. Wonderful Christmas decorations including a train:)

Room Tip: Be sure to remember that the train runs day and night so if the train whistle bothers you...get a room far from the tracks.

This is about our 3rd stay at La Posada. This time I did some research and found one can see pictures of all the rooms so I chose the one (Jane Russell) that looked like one we'd like (and we did like it). One can spend hours studying all the aspects of this historic hotel, the restoration, the art, the history. It is not just a place to stay so allow some time to enjoy this rare hotel that still has passenger trains going by that can take you to Los Angeles or Chicago. It is a bit of the Fred Harvey experience only more than 75 years later. Plan on staying long enough to enjoy all this.

Room Tip: Check the La Posada site to see pictures and reviews of the different rooms.

We spent 2 nights starting with Christmas Day in room 212. The room was clean and comfortable and plenty roomy enough for the two of us and our stuff. It is a pretty decent walk including stairs from the vehicle to a second floor room so be aware of this. We've been here before and also are in decent shape so not a problem for us. The decor in the room was terrific. The whole lodge was decorated really well for Christmas. The fireplace in the ballroom was a nice place to hang out after dinner. Room for improvement in a few areas: The coffee was very weak except for the morning we left. Free coffee and apples are in the gift shop but can get crowded since it's set up in a corner. Check-in still is in the gift shop which is awkward for guests rolling suitcases. Staff was all great on this trip from servers to front desk clerks to housekeepers. See Turquoise Room for our reviews of the restaurant.

Room Tip: South rooms face the RR tracks. If this noise bothers you request another side. No train whistles as there are no crossings but you can still hear the locomotives.

We had the opportunity to stay at the La Posada Hotel in Winslow Arizona again, 4 years after our first stay. The hotel has truly matured and come into its own. The owners are doing a fabulous job of bringing the hotel back to life in a very unique and individual way. It is not a period restoration, rather an interpretation and continuation of the vision of the architect Mary Colter.
This time we had a king room with a double whirlpool tub, just the ticket after 5,000 miles on the road. The furniture, artwork, books, and general feel of the room made me feel like I was staying with an elderly, much loved relative. The room and bed were very comfortable and we both had a great nights sleep.
Once again we ate both dinner and breakfast at the Turquoise Room. What a treat. Short ribs for dinner were the best I have ever had. Whats not to love about a chocolate souffle baked to order and shared? Breakfast is the deal of the century. Simply the best egg dish I have ever had. Do not miss eating here.
After dinner we were watching the trains through the window ( it was 20 degrees outside!) and an engineer from the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railway struck up a conversation with us. Extremely interesting! What other hotel in the USA would you be able to do that? I love trains and to be able to see them up close is always cool.
Really, if you are tired of the Hamptons and Holiday Inns do not miss this special place!

Room Tip: Select a room in the older more historic area. You will not be disappointed!

Loved the common areas, more like a very exclusive B&B. We didn't believe the restaurant would be as good as we had heard- well, it was better. Never fans of hotel restaurants, we were wrong here. Wonderful tastes. The bar was warm and cozy. We sat outside and watched the trains go by. I do have a complaint, though, and it was our room #117. First level and all the way at the end. It was a little like a cave including steps up to the bathroom. It was a little concerning we would not remember those steps. But, all was well. The rest of the hotel made up for this. I think there were many people who had made reservations for specific rooms that were more spacious than ours.

Room Tip: Maybe a higher room with a view.
