Description: One of the southwest's unique restaurants, providing a mesmerizing interpretation of Arizona food. Discover a wonderful road restaurant as you travel Arizona and explore the renovated Fred Harvey Winslow hotel - La Posada.

Winslow is probably not a destination for most folks, more of a place, as it has been for 100 years, to pass through. But, The Turquoise Room at La Posada is worth a trip, and people seem to know it. It was pretty busy this past Monday evening. We have gone several times and it has been excellent. The Signature Soup is simple Southwestern fare, but still rather unique. Try it. We shared a quail-pheasant-shortrib sampler that was also terrific. In short, the menu and quality of preparation are WAY above that of a road hotel. Complaints about the prices, considering the quality of the food, are not justified to us. Take a look at the menus on the Website and make your own decision. The restaurant retains some of the Harvey ambience, which basically means a rather open and noisy setting; we accepted this as part of the charm.

I would never travel to Winslow to stand on the corner, but I have traveled there a number of times to dine in the Turquoise Room and stay at La Posada. Over five meals, including breakfast and lunch we have found nearly everything excellent. The commitment to local and heritage ingredients, interesting variations of southwestern and classic dishes, excellent presentation, a well-priced and chosen wine list, and experienced and helpful servers distinguish the Turquoise Room from many of the better restaurants in Arizona. All of this wrapped up in the grand renovated dining room of a historic railroad hotel. Plus there is a cozy martini bar and outdoor patio dining appears to be on the way.

We went to Winslow to "stand in the corner". We ate at the La Posada and what a great lunch we had. We had the Don Juan quesadillas. They were the best quesadillas we ever had. I also ordered the Signature soup. It was delicious. Our friends ordered the pork carnitas and loved them. Great experience walking around the hotel after our meal.

We should have listened to some of our fellow posters as to the merits of the The Turquoise Room. Friends who have been there love the restaurant and encouraged us to overnight at La Posada and dine at the hotel. The food was mediocre at best, but the prices were very high. Maybe because there was a large group at the hotel (approx. 60) who were dining buffet style, the kitchen was not at the top of its game. We ordered the prime rib (okay) and the bison steak. At $29 for the steak, you expect it be served the way it was ordered, but it was past medium rare and tough. Our waiter who was taking care of tables that were part of the large group was not the most attentive. We were half through our meal by the time we were able to flag him down to ask for some butter. We did let the waiter know how disappointed we were in the meal and his response was that "the restaurant is full every night." Well good for them, but I was taking about our dining experience. The waiter must have said something to the manager and he, too, stopped by and repeated the same "the restaurant is full every night." They must have this rehearsed, but the fact that they can get someone to dine there once, doesn't mean that they will be back. We know we won't nor would we recommend it to anyone we know. We wanted to like the restaurant, but between the food and almost deafening noise (again the group of 60) I expect more for a $100 than one appetizer, 2 so-so diners and a half bottle of wine. We skipped dessert as we just wanted to get away from the noise.
