Owner description: “Homolovi” is Hopi for “Place of the Little Hills” — the traditional name for Winslow, Arizona. Homolovi State Park now serves as a center of research for the late migration period of the Hopi from the 1200s to the late 1300s. While archaeologists study the sites and confer with the Hopi to unravel the history of Homolovi, Arizona State Parks provides the opportunity for visitors to visit the sites and use park facilities including a visitor center and museum, various trails and a campground. Several covered picnic tables are located throughout the park. Pullouts provide the opportunity to observe wildlife in this park of over 4,000 acres at an elevation of 4,900 feet.

So easy to get to from Phoenix and Tucson and Flag. Just a few minutes north of Winslow. Spectacular views are delivered with very non-touristy views of real petroglyphs, an exposed ceremonial kiva, rock homes and thousand of ancient pieces of pottery known as shards. Don't remove any of the pieces unless you want truly bad juju. But holding one as I overlooked the Little Colorado, I could feel the potter as she looked out over the same view and created her wares. Stop by the visitor center first for a map to special areas to stop. Easy walking and even wheelchair friendly through most of the turnoffs.

Only a short drive from Winslow, this place feels like it is in the middle of nowhere.
Interesting ruins with 360 views that go on forever.

Nice little visitor centre, with a small museum and friendly rangers. There also are a couple of hiking trails (mind the snakes). All together enough to entertain you for at least a day.

The campground has a nice layout, the facilities are very spacious and clean. All campsites have water and electricity hookups, and some sites are equipped with tentpads. The evening/nightskies are brilliant.

Almost a sand dunes with ruins. We like it as we could see for miles from some of the top areas where the ruins are. If you have time worth the adventure.

The Momolovi ruins are just a couple miles East of Winslow and just across the freeway. You can almost feel the presence of the Anisazi ghosts of the past as you walk through the place and view the foundations of their buildings and the extensive remains of pottery shards. Look but don't touch. There is plenty of RV parking there and you really won't regret stopping.

You have to head north on 89, a mile or so east of town, to find these well preserved and relatively undisturbed ruins. They are not huge, but well worth visiting.
