This inn actually has a motel feel. When I entered the room, I was disappointed. I now understand why it is rated #1 in the Trip Advisor site...there are not many hotels in the area. The room was dark. Although I wanted to open the drapes, I didn't since I was in the first floor. Besides, there wasn't much of a view (I can see cars parked in front of my door). After reading other Trip Advisor Reviews, maybe I got an older room assigned to me... well at least it felt that way to me. Other than that, the people are wonderful!

I stayed here a few years while taking a travel course during college, and visited again the year after that. During the 2 week stay, my room was always warm, comfortable, and tidy. The staff were always pleasant. The restaurant was very good, definatly try the blue corn mush for breakfast! It's a local specialty/comfort food that you'll crave once you've left.

The farmers market down the street is pretty good, each day has different vendors offering things like herbal medicine, beads and freshly foraged pinion nuts. The store next to the hotel offers different crafts, cowboy boots and hats as well as raw materials for weaving.
The Navajo Nation Museum is EXCELLENT. It has a fine selection of rugs and baskets that will leave you in awe.

As for the wild dogs, I never felt threatened by them, and we actually adopted one as our own for the time we were there! There's also roaming cows and horses as well.

Staying in the Navajo Nation can definatly be a culture shock, but once you get past that you'll see these are some of the most generous people you'll ever meet. Remember to support the local artisans, and try to buy directly from the artist when possible. Your purchase will be so much more valuable when you can associate the story they told you with it.

That said, why wouldn't you want to stay here? It's a great hotel in a wonderful location!

I stayed here for 8 days while attending a local Navajo weaving class. The hotel was clean, very comfortable and quiet. I found the staff in both the hotel and restaurant to be very attentive and helpful. This is a great place to use as a base to explore a fascinating part of the country.

Just returned from over 3500 miles vacation including a stay in Window Rock, Az. Of all the hotels we stayed in Az,NM and Tx this one topped them all. I loved the Native American music played in the courtyard beside the water fountain not to mention the gorgeous mountains surrounding the hotel. This is THE PLACE to stay. Service, comfort and clean with delicious meals served everyday! Outstanding! You must stay here if ever near Window Rock!

Room Tip: Ask for the rooms facing the courtyard.

We enjoyed our stay in Window Rock. The room was clean with microwave and small frig.
Staff was friendly, polite and helpful. Shortly after we checked into our rooms, the front desk called to see if we were pleased with our rooms and if they can provide anything else for our comfort. On our bed was a postcard with greetings of Welcome and a small packet of cedar as a token of thanks for our stay. Touches like these make for a pleasant and memorable experience. The onsite restaurant with a large breakfast buffet included was convenient, hearty and included some authentic Navajo dishes. The Navajo Museum and beautiful Window Rock Monument made for a great stopover on our way to Santa Fe

The staff at this hotel go out of their way to make sure you are well accommodated. Though the rooms are a little dated, everything else is just great. The folks at the front desk are a great source of information, and the restaurant staff is friendly and efficient. A nice hot breakfast is included in your rate. Everything is a great value, and the gift shop has lovely, high quality things. You are also right across the street from the Navajo Arts and Crafts Enterprise-what a great place! Plus, you are not far from wonderful trading posts and Canyon de Chelly. I have also learned that the hotel is also the site of some wonderful weaving workshops. Window Rock is the capital of the Navajo Nation, and I am sure the staff is used to dignitaries, but they treat all with great respect, courtesy and hospitality. We will return, for sure!
