“Taking a ride on the Polar Express? Stay in a Caboose Afterwards!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 24, 2009

It's rare that I rate a property 5 stars, but the Canyon Motel deserves just that! We stayed in Caboose No. 1, which was a fabulous, magical experience for our children (and us, too!) We checked in upon arrival in Williams for the Polar Express, and our stay in the caboose just made the entire evening that much more special. I almost hesitated to write this review, fearing that others would try for a Caboose/Polar Express combo ~ but I've booked our stay for next year, so I'm not worried! In fact, I'd recommend that anyone coming to Williams for the Polar Express experience try to reserve a caboose at the Canyon Motel vs. the hotel at the Grand Canyon Railway Depot ~ it really is a unique, fun way to add a special dimension to the experience!

The layout in the caboose is perfect for a family ~ when you walk in, there's a bed for the parents, along with a TV, fridge, and microwave. The bathroom is in the center of the caboose and has a sink, toilet, and shower. At the back of the caboose is a bed big enough to be shared by two children, with their own TV/VCR combo, and then an upper bunk. My kids were transfixed by the stay ~ it truly was delightful!

After a long day of work and a longer night driving, it was great to roll up to this perfectly quaint and comfortable roadside repository. 2am saw my buddy and I driving up to the even-in-the-dark-cute compound of respectable and clean cabin-rooms. 2 beds, fridge, wall heater and HOT morning shower got us good-to-go for our 30 mile trek into the wild. Nancy, front desk concierge was also extremely friendly and helpful amidst hundreds of inviting Grand Canyon/Arizona impulse buy trinkets. Would stay again and would try a Box Car room in one of the vintage Rail Cars.

We would stay here again, but don't get an adjoining room or you will hear pin drop next door, and can even see if they have the neighbors have their lights on if yours are off...
We were watching a movie at 11 pm and laughing and got our (adjoining)) door banged on, and then were woken up by these neighbors at 5:30 am and could hear each word of their conversation, and they were only talking. Ditto for day two... but new neighbors who got in late, which was ok for us, but I don't think would be so good for everyone.
The beds are not so comfy either. Honestly, it's a bit dingy, feels clean, but is well worn.
The staff is really friendly and helpful and gave us some great coupons for local restaurants. We where really glad to have laundry facility and playground. The price was right, and I would come back, but would be much more selective about the room... I would NOT get a with a adjoining door. Also I couldn't figure out how to adjust the room tempature, it was comfortable, but there were a few times I would have liked to made some adjustments.

We chose the Canyon Motel for our trip on the Grand Canyon Railroad and the Grand Canyon itself. We found the staff to be very helpful with suggestions for restaraunts and providing coupons. The WiFi was blaring fast and secure. Bed was comfortable; fridge was a pleasant surprise. We loved staying here. The welcome gift was a little strange but provided a good laugh when we got home.

We would definitely consider the Canyon Motel again if we travel this way. Williams overall is a place everyone should visit. Nice restaraunts, some nighttime entertainment and friendly people.

I stayed with my adult sisters while our dad parked his rv in the adjoining campground. We didn't bring laptops or even turn the tvs on. The bathroom was very tiny, the upper bunk was a challenge for my younger 40-something sister, but she got up there without complaint. I loved the feeling of staying in a caboose and am glad we chose it. My dad suggested it because he had camped there on prior trips and he liked the rv facility.
