Owner description: Located on a section of old Route 66, the Deer Farm is 10 acres of absolute animal wonderland. Walk a path around our park to view wallabies, llamas, mini cattle, bison, peacocks, & much more. Walk with deer, feed the deer right from your hands. Chat with a parrot, Mozart is a very entertaining cockatoo, Scarlet (a lilac crowned Amazon Parrot) a bit more shy, pet a goat, kiss a camel. You will have a blast here if you are an animal lover.

Buy the food and the deer will come right to you for sure. They also have a nice collection of other animals. It is small, but we saw every animal clearly. We are still talking about the cockatoo at the entrance that jumped up and down saying hello to us. I dare you to try not to smile at that bird. This place is a little pricey, but it is nice to know it is helping care for the animals.

Mozart, the umbrella cockatoo is definitely a hit at the Deer Farm. He has resided here nearly 26 years now, and came to us unable to speak. Times have changed, and so has his vocabulary, thanks to wonderful visitors who cheer him on. The more that people chat and laugh at him, the sillier he gets. He is a comedian for sure!

This place has been around for 42 years... and it's relatively close to Bearizona... price is half of Bearizona and so is what you see. There is no introduction to what you will be witnessing by the staff or even much of an exchange with them... they seem to only be there to man the store, feed the animals and take your money, at least on this day. When you go in you come in armed with a 3 dollar cup of food. The deer know this and swarm and nudge you. I felt bad for the less agressive deer that couldn't get to the food. I was actually amazed by how agressive some of these deer are. They will push you and chew on anything including your clothes so try not to wear anything to loose fitting like a dress for the ladies or a loose untucked shirt for the men. They will chew on it an given half a moment. Otherwise it was nice to actually touch the deer but would of liked a heads up. Otherwise there are peacocks and pot belly pigs and goats and reindeer and Buffalo that don't look all that happy, not sure how happy a Buffalo gets, would you be happy knowing your family was nearly exterminated 100 years ago.
Anyway, might be fun for some... just be careful with the aggressive deer.

Sorry the girls didn't tell you what you might be experiencing. We have 3 new gals, so still in training. We will work on how to help visitors out. Most people have been here over the years and when we try to explain they tell us they already know what to expect.

The shy deer are either young, or are already full as we feed twice daily. The big green shelter in the center is where the 4 feed troughs are, and some deer prefer the hay & deer chow, others prefer the cups with the corn and alfalfa. The deer who chewed on your clothing were the bottle raised kids, and just trying to get attention for petting & feed.

The bison are turned into the bigger barn area, and perhaps were just waiting for their time to run when you saw them. We bottle raised them both, and they are fun when they get out, although visitors can't see them well when they are roaming & running. They LOVE to roll around in a dirt pile we have out back.

Whether you are young, old, or in between you will be thrilled to be swarmed by the deer and feeding them out of your hand. This is a small stop that is a great playful and relaxing break from looking at all the spectacular national park scenery. It is a very small petting zoo park that you can cover in an hour and continue on your way

This is a great Rt. 66 stop. With kids or without. Our first trip there was 15 years ago on my first trip to the Grand Canyon. We have been there everytime we take visitors to the Grand Canyon, the farm never disappoints. My kids insist we stop there over and over regardless of their advancing ages. I would recommend to go early and absolutly feed the deer. It is all a good value and great fun. If the owner is there you would be fortunate to have a conversation with her about the farm and how they got into the deer business. We look forward to our next visit!

It was 2003, my girlfriend and I took a morning helicopter ride over the Grand Canyon. Unbelievable experience. Shortly thereafter we met up with my parents at the Grand Canyon Village and rode together, a short and scenic drive south to Williams, Arizona where we visited the Grand Canyon Deer Farm. The owners gave us a personal tour and were so hospitable. The animals so healthy and happy and come right up to you to say hello. Well I just turned the VHS tape into a DVD and will be sending you a copy of our wonderful experience there ten years ago. What a great day with family together to top the day off. Do go everyone, a wonderful walk through the farm for the entire family. Kind of funny and a bit embarrassed to say...when I left the deer farm I wasn't saying the word "horns" any more but the correct word "antlers". lol Thanks again.

Gerald, thank you! You made my really hectic day have a wonderful happy ending. I appreciate your story. But I do have a question. It has been 10 years, and you live in California??? Why haven't you been back?? We get people from New Orleans who come every year :) I even had a family with a similar great story from Kuwait who came 18 years ago on a honeymoon, and were back last week with their 4 kids....all the way from Kuwait! If you come, let us know who you are. You haven't even met Gracie, our beautiful camel yet. She gives kisses too.

Pat
