The train was good with a great narrator that kept things lively. On the trip there was not much to see so wouldn’t spend extra on first class. The Grand Canyon of course was magnificent and I definitely recommend the narrated bus tour for very educational information. Also there are several options for lunch on your own instead of included in the package. There is quite a bit of walking so if you have limitations keep that in mind. Also the altitude is over 7,000 feet so breathing is a factor.

Took the Grand Canyon Railway and loved every minute of it! Saw wild burros and the dramatic change of the terrain from Williams to the Canyon. The service was excellent and our hostess Linda Lou told a wonderful story about how her family made their way to the Williams area. She really filled the time with excellent anecdotes and facts about the area. I really liked meeting a local and I asked her some questions about her life. She told us about hauling water three times a month as just an everyday thing. The only thing I would omit is the 15 minute skit before the ride with locals brandishing fake guns and “killing” people over missing breakfast. Those days are gone no one wants to see people “shot” anymore!! The skit needs to embrace the new west and give some excellent information about our train ride. Americans are tired of gratuitous violence and guns......get rid of the tired out-of-date show and do something else without guns. The trip was great! Loved being on board. Everyone we met was terrific!! Need to spruce up the club car. It is dowdy, dreary and dirty! I really want to bring my grandchildren and do it again!!

The entire experience with the Grand Canyon Railway was remarkable. From the gentleman taking our reservations directly from the Grand Canyon Railway to our vivacious Rail Car emcee, Amber Rose, everything exceeded our expectations. I would NOT recommend booking this on Expedia or any where else. Just go through the Grand Canyon Railway website. Ask for the discounts available. We reserved the Coach A Car and the seats were comfortable and the view of the landscape was interesting. Amber Rose was a plethora of local information about the history of the Grand Canyon Train, the Grand Canyon, things to do around Northern AZ and a bunch of other unrelated tidbits. She made the trip entertaining, fun and informative. We would ask for her again. The only downside is that you only have 3 1/2 hours at the Grand Canyon so plan on another visit to see more of the sites at the Canyon another time.

We stayed at the Grand Canyon Railway Lodge and rode the train to the Canyon and back. We loved it. John the animal guy was our service agent and was very informative. There were a couple of train singers that strolled through the cars singing train songs.
We took the south rim motor coach tour when we got there and then we had free time to explore, eat or shop for gifts.
The ride back was just as enjoyable but be careful, we were robbed by masked bandits on horseback on the return trip.
This was so much better than just driving to the rim and looking out at this awesome site!
Do it.

As part of a package purchased through the Grand Canyon Railway Hotel website. we rode the Grand Canyon Railway from the Williams depot to the South Rim. Although the train ride time-wise longer than driving in, having a car in the village is not an advantage. Everything is either in walking distance or easily accessible by the free shuttle.

The trip takes 2 hours and 15 minutes each way. We specifically chose first class for the extra leg room. We rode the Coconino car and had Cameron as our host. Along with more leg room first class comes with complimentary lite snacks and soft drinks. you can also order alcohol for an additional cost.

Cameron was great in that he was fun and informative without being overbearing and too silly. The ride is scenic, but we weren't able to see much wildlife on the way up except for cattle and a couple of prairie dogs. However, on the way back we saw a huge buck after just leaving the village. Quite impressive, to say the least.

There is lite entertainment on the train. A couple of singers, my favorite being Banjo Billy. Also on the way back you experience a train robbery.

The one negative was the photographer. Took our picture on the way up, but was rushing to get to everyone with her photo package to sell on the way back. As our area on the car only had us and another couple in it she didn't get to us until we were almost back at the depot, then rushed through. Her package was $40 which was a bit extravagant for what you got. When the other couple said no she just took off to get to another car with more people. Probably lost a sale with us if given an opportunity to (GASP!) look at the package.

Overall though, a very enjoyable experience. One we'll always remember.
