“Nice hike, starts easy,gets jharder”
Reviewed March 8, 2014

Good desert hiking trail. The beginning is easy, and runs parallel to a four wheel drive trail (but not right next to it), and crosses the hiking trail in several places. Going back along the four wheel drive trail makes a good alternative route. After hiking in for about an hour it gets steeper, and the last 45 minutes to the saddle is quite tough.
Very pretty. Only a few people there when we did trail in late February, when the weather was great for hiking and several flowers were in bloom.
Well marked trail but not overly wide or busy.

“Semi-challenging trail”
Reviewed September 22, 2013

Beautiful scenery, coyotes in the valley. If you love the desert and the way it makes you feel, you'll enjoy this trail.

“Great hike for desert experience”
Reviewed September 15, 2013

This is my favorite hike in Wickenburg area. It has a little bit of everything - level, moderate, difficult, strenuous. The first 2 miles undulate in/out of washes, through narrow rocky canyons, and on a plateau filled with lush Saguaros. Once section passes through a thick Cholla forest, many of which have bird nests in them. Look for middens (huge piles of cholla balls under a tree which is the home of the desert pack rat). The next half mile is a climb up to the saddle, with high rock step-ups and loose gravel. Look for vultures and their nests on the cliff ledges. Views from this section and the saddle are good. The last push to the peak is a strenuous scramble on all fours and with some exposed drop-offs. Many get to the saddle and return, which is great hike in itself. If you do get to the very top, you can go to the Wickenburg Chamber of Commerce and receive a certificate that you made it.

“Worth the Drive - Beautiful!”
Reviewed May 21, 2013

Awesome trail. Easy start to moderate hike to the jeep trailhead. All ages can participate. Gets steeper near the top. Some boulder scrambling to the saddle. Rock climbing from the saddle to the very top. Most hike only to the saddle. Great views. Worth the drive to get there. Go to the Wickenburg Chamber to receive a certificate stating you climbed Vulture Peak!

Brick rustic bathroom at trail head. Picnic table available. Other trails in the near vicinity.

“fun but strenuous trail”
Reviewed May 2, 2013

I do this about once a year. It's strenuous, but fun and the view at the top is unbelieveable. You can go to the saddle which is very doable or to the very top which is a little scary for novices.
