My father lives in Surprise and said we should go to this when we visited him. The drive in was nice, and there are restrooms along the way, and a nice visitor center. We went early morning, to avoid the heat , and walked up the Waterfall Canyon to the Waterfall. No water that time of year, except a small pool and a crevasse. But it was very cool, and lots of Petroglyphs along the way. Watch for small animals, birds, and some snakes along the path. We then walked around the Long Loop and the Short Loop, both of which are easy walking, and the long loop is indeed long. Bring plenty of water with you, and wear sunscreen.

We took our grand daughters there when they came for a visit. Bring water. We went in the spring when it was warm but not hot. Great place for kids to explore. We are only 15 min. away and we bring all our grand children there when they visit. Got a real good place to go when it's over 110 deg.

Took the in-laws to White Tank park and they had a great time. Both parents are in the eighties and they were able to do a little hiking

These mountains are about 20 minutes from my brother's home in Surprise. We hike there everytime we are in Arizona. There is a brand new Visitor's Center and library at the entrance...a very nice place to visit. There is a fee for this park, but you can buy passes that make it more reasonable. We had a few day passes that were two years old, and they still honored them. This year, we walked the Waterfall Canyon trail. It is really nice because it is wheelchair accessable for the first half mile. The waterfall is about a mile down the trail, and although there is very little actual water, it is a very cool area...you can get refreshed from the heat.

My husband is an avid hike and he feels this is one of the nicest areas in Arizona to hike. Also very doable for a day hiker. Take plenty of water, good shoes, and a hat. We have run into rattlesnakes and fox on the trails.

The White Tanks Regional Preserve is one of the best regional preserves in the State. Make sure you check out the Waterfall Canyon trail which leads up to a secluded pool and if you're lucky a trail of water cascading from above. The trail is well maintained, passes a petroglyph area, and has spectacular views of the area. Bring your binoculars and a camera and plenty of water. Bathroom facilities are well maintained and there are many other trails available for hiking.
