I am quite surprised by the negative reviews.

We were only here for one night before our hike into the canyon. Found it to be clean, quiet and the staff were friendly. The guy behind reception was happy to answer our questions about our upcoming hike, directions etc.

The room was large and comfortable with 2 double beds. There is a large car park.

If I had to make one small criticism it would be that I think the hotel would do well to offer an early breakfast, as lots of people set off 5am ish to the canyon. Instead we made do with snacks from the service station down the road.

This was my 2nd visit to The Grand, and I would consider staying again in future.

I spend one night at this hotel and I was not very pleased. All the staff members were unfriendly and not helpful. The room was small, bed uncomfortable and quite overpriced for the quality of service. I don't think I'll stay there on my next visit to the Grand Canyon.

We stayed at this hotel the night of May 27, 2014. The location is very handy to the Grand Canyon, but the hotel is heavily used to the point that is needs a total interior updating. The hallway rugs are very soiled (actually pretty gross) and the rooms need to be updated. The beds are very comfortable. At the Grand, the lobby is very nice and the food is good. Not worth the price we had to pay for the room.

The Grand is just fine if you are paying $100 to $150 per night but when you are paying $300+ you expect a better room, better service, better everything. We also found the restaurant and bar to be understaffed and harried. You could understand these prices if this hotel was on the rim of the Grand Canyon but it isn't. Get real.

We stayed at The Grand Hotel (and paid $100 per night more than the Holiday Inn Express across the street) because we thought it would be the nicest hotel of our 2 week trip through the southwest. Wrong. First of all, it's an OLD hotel that is being renovated and added on to. They're starting on the outside and working their way in. All the public areas are nice, but the hallways to the rooms are disgusting and/or worn (nasty stains on carpets, small old elevator, non-functioning ice machines). The room itself was okay (big comfy beds) but the lighting was awful, especially in the bathroom (where the shower curtain wouldn't stay closed because it was too small). Plus there was a $10/night charge for a fridge and the room safe required a credit card! There was no informational folder in the room ("They're being re-done"), which therefore required a phone call or visit to the desk for any questions - kind of a pain. And our keys stopped working every. single. day. And the ice machines on 2 & 3 didn't work so EVERYONE had to use the one by the pool, which you needed a key to get to. Except our keys kept refusing to work.... The signage around the hotel is very poor, too, again requiring trips to the desk to ask directions.

No breakfast included, although there was a coffee station in the lobby but not lids for the carry-out coffee. And each of the FOAM cups was individually wrapped. I laughed when the hotel sent me a survery asking me about what I thought of their green initiatives.

The only really good thing about this hotel is the staff. Start to finish they were wonderful and friendly and always willing to help.

The restaurant is extremely over-priced ($40 for 2 bowls of yogurt w/fruit, 1 bagel, 2 small juices and 1 coffee!) and the faux-western decor is, well, obviously faux. The gift shop was nice (but pricey) and the pool area was also nice (but lots of dirty towels lying around because there was no bin in which to put them! Details, people!). The guest laundry was very good.

This hotel is just not ready to be called grand and they're not paying attention to the details. Avoid for a while at least.

Room Tip: All the rooms have lovely parking lot views, but I suspect the rooms in the back and on te 3rd floor...

We stayed at the Grand Hotel for 3 nights while we visited the Grand Canyon. The room was large and the hotel was quiet, however I thought the room needed some updating. The chair in our room was ripped, and the bathroom had not been cleaned properly. For the $300 + per night price I expected way more. However you are very close to the Grand Canyon and everyone around us was complaining about the prices. For example, a simple meal at McDonalds was over $10.00. Our tour guide told us that Arizona has no set pricing so you can be charged what ever the market will take. The hotel was full of people visiting the Grand Canyon. We ate at the restaurant every night - the steaks and hamburgers were good, and we had the pizza on our last night. The pizza didn't look very appealing, but tasted yummy.

My daughter stayed across the street at the holdiay inn, and I thought her room was of equal quality to mine, and she got a buffet breakfast every morning.

The people at the desk were super nice and accomidating. If you can't get into the Grand Canyon hotels, and are stuck outside the park, this is a nice hotel, if overpriced.

We stayed here 1 night as part of a fly drive tour, and it was perfectly fine. Quite quirky but was a little bit tired, out room was ok although had a lot better during our tour and again in need of a bit of an update really.

It was clean and comfortable.

We ate in the restaurant on the evening, which was fine but felt it was a bit pricey for what it was.
