“Wanted to like it more”
Reviewed April 22, 2013

Arrived at the Italian Peasant on a Sunday at 11:30 a.m. It was almost deserted, but by the time we left, others were arriving. The decor and atmosphere are nice--attractive bar and kind of a Tuscan look. The food, though, got mixed reviews. My 89-year-old mother had a small lasagna. It came in a dish straight from the oven, but the waitress offered to bring another plate so Mom could scoop some out and let it cool. That was extremely thoughtful. The "small" was really enough for two people. However, that was it--not even a roll or a slice of bread on the side. It had a strong sausage taste which seemed a mite overpowering. My husband had the "fishburger," which is really two pieces of battered and lightly fried fish on a nicely toasted bun. He loved it, and even tried the homemade tartar sauce, which he enjoyed. His side of fires was excellent. I tried the Peasant Burger. They specialize in burgers that they make themselves and grind their own meat. I found mine impossible to eat as served, as the toppings were piled on in such a way that the whole thing slipped apart and disintegrated when I tried to bite into it. That was a bit annoying, but I switched to the knife and fork. The bun was great, as were the mushrooms; I think perhaps the burger was too big for the bun, though. The burger itself was not at all to my liking. The texture was coarse, and there didn't appear to be any seasoning in it. It reminded me of my first attempts to cook hamburgers. It sort of fell apart in chunks. If I'd been able to eat it as a sandwich, maybe the toppings would have masked this problem, but overall I found the meat tasteless and the texture unpleasant. Fortunately I had ordered the coleslaw, which was superb. If I hadn't really hated the burger, I would have given them 4 stars. The atmosphere and friendly service were enough so that we will probably try it again when we visit Tubac, but I will NOT try another burger!

“Farmer Pizza”

Two delicious meals - Farmer's Pizza and the hamburger - you will not be disappointed. The atmosphere is comfortable and the service is excellent. When you go, you have to have an appetite because there is a lot of food.

“Unexpected Gem in Tubac! Best homemade burgers...best homemade pizza!”
Reviewed April 7, 2013

What a great place! Too bad its not better known outside of Tubac locals. Best home made fresh meat signature burgers (and super tasty crispy home made fries!)I've had in Tucson. My wife had their Fresh Ahi Tuna sandwhich platter and flipped. Like a dish from a gourmet fish place but in an inexpensive and cozy local family restaurant.Try their homemade cole slaw with apples. Their chef knows what he/she is doing. Plus, i'm from NYC and their pizza and pasta dishes are the real deal! What an unexpected find! Plus, especially compared to some of the overpriced tourist traps in Tubac, yhis place is priced for value! Loved it all!

“An unexpected find”
Reviewed March 11, 2013

At first, the prices may seem a bit high, but the food quantity and quality are well worth it. The burger was very good, and prepared as requested. The Chicago style chili dog was large and had to be eaten with a knife and fork. The Corned beef warm, and stacked about 1 1/2 inches on fresh marble rye. The portion of french fries is huge! One order is enough for 3 or even 4 people. The entire place is easily accessible to handicapped individuals. Would have been nice to have Italian crooners or other more appropriate music playing - that was rock and a bit loud for the lunch hour.
