The restaurant's decor is probably the best thing about it. There was a large mirror on the wall which needed cleaning. Speaking of cleaning -- there are blue plates at each place setting on a larger charger. My blue plate had dried water marks and greasy finger prints on one corner and I asked for a clean one thinking I'd be served food on it. As it turned out, they took both plates away when serving the meal. So, what's the point? The menu prices for lunch were what I would expect for a dinner menu, not much under $15 and many over $20. I had the $10.95 chicken enchiladas which were quite good. They came with a small scoop of rice and refried beans with a single corn chip on the side. The rice was rather bland but the beans were very tasty. There was no complimentary chips and salsa served before the meal. I had to get the servers attention when my drink was empty and I asked for a glass of water. After drinking a few sips, I noticed that the lip of the glass had lipstick marks on it! Yech. I complained to the server and got a very weak apology. Service was so-so and the restaurant was not busy. All in all, I'd probably not return due to price and cleanliness issues.

The decor is fabulous. Huge crystal tear drops hang from the ceiling, along with large glass hearts. A lot of time and money was spent to create an incredibly beautitul interior.

Unfortunately, the food was disappointingly bland. The salsa served with the chips was a mixture of onions and something pink and slightly gelatinous, without a hint of spice. The chili rellano ($16.95 for lunch) was a pile of something covered in the same salsa, heated up. I don't expect Mexican food to be spicy to be good, but some spice is needed to make it flavorful.

I might try Elvira's again, but the prices will make it difficult.

We visit Tubac 3-4 times a year and have never been able to find a restaurant we'd want to go back to - until now. Our party of 4 had lunch at Elvira's on a Sunday afternoon in mid-November. We ordered 3 entrees and one appetizer (guacamole) for the 4 of us. The guac was great - freshly made and chunky with still-warm tortilla chips. For the entrees, we had two of their mole selections and the Frida Kahlo - a vegetarian stuffed poblano dish. I would normally shun anything vegetarian, but this dish was outstanding. Both moles were excellent too. The decor is eclectic but nice, and the tequila selection at the bar was exceptional. Lunch for 4 with 1 drink each was around $80. Not cheap, but worth it. We would even seriously consider taking the hour-plus drive to Tubac JUST to eat at Elvira's!

Unusual but good- try the Frida Kahlo entree...a poblano stuffed with squash blossoms and roasted corn. Delicious, accompanied by rice but not generous portion-wise. Get an app or plan on dessert. We split an app of potato tacos which were good but not piping hot. Service is OK- our waitress was nice but not on top of things as were the other waitpersons. Good margaritas! 1 app, 2 entrees, 2 'ritas=$62 before tip
