well, i didn't want to say anything about this place because i don't want you to go. really. i want it all to myself, but they asked me too, and i love the staff and the extended family of enlightened owners so here goes. don't come here if your some fast track L.A. tool who need to be connected to your agent or life coach 24/7. you won't be able to. don't come if you're riddled with irrational fears, (the ocean, wildlife, self discovery, silence, reality). don't come if you travel with 7 pieces of vuitton and a personal colon-hydrotherapist, "your limo can't handle the road" and i mean that both literally and metaphorically. really! don't! i think there's a nice four seasons outside of cabo san lucas you'll enjoy.
do come if you're in search of yourself, your children, your wife, your lover, or god. stay in one of the 5 artisan/elegant casitas that all overlook the lush, bountiful, inscrutable sea of cortez. perch on your private patio, (casa tres has two!) and listen to the ancient heartbeat of the sea. yup, that's why they call it a "body" of water. come if you want the "tranquillo" which they offer here like a narcotic. stay a while, it doesn't arrive until day 3. eat, drink, swim, dive, surf, fish, read, breath, touch and seek awareness...of you, of her, of them, of him. casual luxury and time, time to refill the soul that's gone thirsty in the city. if you like that kind of crap, and at a pretty reasonable price, then i hope to meet you there...maybe soon, i've already booked my return.

Room Tip: every room is a winner. rent both dos casitas for 4 or more. if you love camping, go for the stone h...

We had an amazing week at Villa del Faro. Great food, friendly, personal service and fabulous beaches to explore. The surrounding terrain and wild life provided daily adventures and pictures galore. We needed a quiet relaxing vacation and this was the perfect place! This place is totally worth the trip to get there. In fact the trip out to Villa del Faro is part of what makes it so great!

We spent three incredible days and nights in the stone cottage on the beach. We could easily have spent a week. We had an incredible close to nature experience falling asleep to breaching whales and the sound of numerous seabirds. We woke up every morning to an incredible sunrise over the ocean. We made very good use of the picnic basket, cooler, and out-door barbecues. Breakfasts in the "big house" were wonderful and the staff welcoming and friendly. Looking forward to returning one day soon

This place is paradise. At least once you get past the road, which is indeed a challenge best met with 4 wheel drive (or at least high clearance). We have been to many high end 'eco-resorts' in Mexico, and this is by far the best. Complete privacy and serenity, beautfiul beaches, wonderful hosts who welcome you into the family, great food, and whales spouting off shore visible to you as you lift your head off the pillow. If you're the kind of person who can't survive without checking your email every five minutes, go somewhere else. But if you understand the value of peace and quiet and beauty....yep, this is the place.

Room Tip: If there's any way you can afford it, spring for the casita right by the pool. Very much worth...

When I told my Cabo San Lucas friends that I was driving up to Cabo Pulmo, on the East Cape of Baja, to do some snorkeling near the reef for a few days, they said-"Good luck-hope we see you again, someday". This is a remote destination, accesible by only one washboard dirt road-a 25 mile stretch of nasty, dusty terrain where you expect hordes of Indians or banditos to attack from behind tall agave, but the most you ever see is horses, burros, or a cow in the road. Most people that go up to Pulmo like to camp out, or rent tiny casitas (bungalows), basically roughing it with an outdoor shower, solar poqered everything, no phone, internet access, nada. Not this girl. Camping is for girl scouts. We found Villa del Faro finally, an 'Eco-hotel' B&B perched on 12 acres of oceanfront hilltop-a sprawling compound of a main family home, enchanting gardens, fountains, pergolas, swimming pool, balconies, palapas and casitas-everything lovingly and painstakingly maintained. There are no phones, tv, room service limited electric, and you won't care. Upon our arrival and checking in, we were offered ice cold Modelos, very welcomed after that grueling journey (it is advised to not travel that coast road after dark-wise advice). Our private casita consisted of a lovely sitting room with couch-bed, a huge separate bedroom with fireplace, gorgeous tile bath, and private sun terraces and shaded palapas-all overlooking the sea. There is a separate bar/dining casita, where you can get a cocktail, enjoy an optional chef prepared dinner under the stars ( $45 pp-strongly suggested) and delicious full breakfast, which is included. Our dinner started with the biggest, best, freshest margarita we have ever had! Then their house guacamole, red and green sauced chicken enchiladas, chayote, beans and rice. The coconut flan was dense and delicious like creme brulee. We watched the amazing sunset, and passed out at 9pm! There's no nitelife other than the sounds of nature, owls, mourning doves, frolicking lizards, and that's just fine. Next morning we sw in the gorgeous pool, enjoyed breakfast chilequiles and omelettes, roamed the beach, and just plain relaxed before heading up the coast to snorkel. We wish we had planned to stay longer, but now that we know the way, we'll plan for a longer stay next time. We didn't expect this gorgeous Villa in the middle of literally nowhere, and we didn't want to leave this magical, very special haven.

This place is amazing and completely unlike any other place I have stayed. We stayed in the "Beach Cottage," which is a stone hut on the beach, so you wake up to the waves crashing and have a little fireplace to warm you and light the cabin at night. We spent the first night of our honeymoon there, and it could not have been better (well, it would have been better if it were 20 degrees warmer, but that was not their fault!). Marilyn and the rest of the gang who run the place (they seem to all be related in one way or another) could not be friendlier and more understanding of what people want when going to the place like that, namely a relaxed, low key atmosphere, and friendly, personal service (e.g., when we arrived there was a bottle of champagne and a container of ice for us b/c they knew it was our honeymoon). Highly recommended!

Room Tip: The beach cottage was awesome.

My partner & I have been travelling to Cabo / Baja Sur for the past three years for our annual year-end break (usually 10-14 days). We start in Todos Santos (split between the Todos Santos Inn and Rancho Pescadero - both excellent) and end at Las Ventanas.

This year we decided to try Villa del Faro for 3 nights before going to Las Ventanas - the right decision! It's actually easy to find (directions are good and the road was not that bad - best to travel early / late morning, but certainly before 4PM). We encountered feral donkeys, cattle and horses - creating a pastoral feel.

The location of the property is isolated and very beautiful. You will have an empty beach next door to walk or try the arroyo - great early morning or late day - it goes for miles back into the desert / hills. Breakfasts and dinners are homey and delicious - not necessarily gourmet, but very satisfying. The owners and staff are very nice and we highly recommend getting to know them.

We rented the Casa Alberca (pool house) - wonderful open air space and perfectly positioned by the pool -- and the cold water was amazing (we hate heated pools - on a hot day, this one will refresh you!). Bring snacks, and lunch food with you for the fridge or kitchen / kitchenette - there is a very large grocery near the entrance to the road leading to the Villa.

Each night we enjoyed a fire in either the living room while watching a movie (this is the one accomodation with cable / DVD) or in the main bedroom while reading.

We were given a tour of the other accomodations and they are all charming, with fireplaces.

This is a place best suited for 2-3 days of pure relaxation - walks, reading, napping and eating.

Email Marilyn and sign yourself up for a stay!

Room Tip: Casa Alberca is the best but Casita Dos is a close second and has it's own charms Casa Alberca d...
