“Tucked away but worth a visit”

The museum is well laid out in one large room and tells the story of the Navaho Nation and their culture in a clear and straightforward way. The mock up of a Navaho Hogan (house) was particularly interesting.

“Excellent”

This museum is well done and the staff is very friendly and helpful. I especially enjoyed the information about the Navajo Code Talkers who participated in WWII.

“Informative, a great preview to visiting Navajoland”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 23, 2012

Learning about a vibrant culture such as that of the Dine' makes all your experiences more meaningful and memorable. Take some time for the Codetalker exhibit, its well worth it! Enjoy a nice iced coffee afterwards at the Hogan Espresso!

“Excellent display of Navajo culture and history”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 1, 2012

This museum tells you all you want to know about the history of the Navajo people and their culture. This include religion (ceremonies, beliefs) and the story of creation, traditions, lodging, social life, economic life, governement, relations with the U.S. The displays include a replica of a hogan with detailed expanations on traditional life, the meaning of the architecture and orientation of the hogan; there are videos you can watch, furnishings, artefacts, all explained in thorough detail. My teenage son was preparing a school project on the Navajo people and he gathered a lot of information there (we stayed over two hours). There are also detailed presentations about Navajo rug styles, food, agriculture, social services, justice system, a complete list of clans, a map of the chapters forming the Navajo assembly, and a representation of the stars from the Navajo viewpoint, not forgetting the four mountain ranges that mark the limit of the former Navajo territory, Dinetah.

Next to the museum is one of the best trading posts in Navajo country, including the largest Navajo carpets available and Navajo as well as Hopi jewelry. Prices are very reasonable, as elsewhere in Diné Bikeyah.

“Amazing.”

This museum is right next to our hotel. It is awesome. Our tour guide Tiffany was the greatest. She knew so much and told us all about the Navajo Creation Story. It was excellent. If your in Tuba City you should go.
