So the drive up has some switchbacks and might be a little unnerving to anyone not used to that type of thing but you need to power through it because it's incredible.

I loved the drive and the cactus and the wildlife - thankfully didn't see any snakes haha but def worth checking out.

Thank Lauren R

we went into tortilla flats blind,we got off the dolly boat and headed east, 3 miles later we were there. what a cool place it is. population of 6 people, that's what the sign reads. we chose to eat out doors and there was a really god band playing at that time. they are called the, "tortilla flats band", very, very entertaining.
we , the wife and I, had, burgers, grandson had a hot dog, it was all good, plus the live entertainment.. very nice off the wall place to visit

Just love taking guests to Canyon Lake which is surrounded by the Superstition Mountains. Lots of folk lore surrounding the area where people to this day search for the alleged lost gold.
There are so many options at the lake whether you are into hiking, horse back riding, boating, fishing, kayaking or taking a cruise on the Dolly steamboat. There is something for everyone no matter your ability level.
I haven't eaten at the restaurant which is right at the marina so can't rate that.
Go out and get some fresh air- it is well worth it!

My recommendation is to drive down Apache Trail (Highway 88) from Apache Junction and Goldfield. Enjoy the beautiful mountain views and stop at the vistas to take pictures. You can drive down to the lake (where there are National Forest restroom facilities and a small beach). The mountains and the lake are truly stunning- this is one of the most scenic drives I've even been on. If you have ever been to Maui, driving through these mountains is a little bit like the drive up Haleakala. Very much worth the trip!

We are not boaters, fisher people ,or water skiers, so our experience on Canyon Lake (other than enjoying the sight of water in the desert) was from the Dolly Steamer cruise.

The lake comes into view after a dusty drive along Highway 88, and one first enjoys it from a turn out overlooking the deep blue colored water against the cliffs behind it. Then there is a curving gently hilly road as one descends to lake level.

It was a prefect day for the cruise, good sunshine and a slight breeze. Lots of other people were out on the water as well. The marina was a busy place. Visits to the lake are free, but there are fees if one wishes to camp. Visit the USDA Forest Service website for Canyon Lake for more information including day use fees and seasonal operation.

The Dolly Steamer cruise is another review, but I highly recommend it.
