“A little gem - don't miss it”
Reviewed July 29, 2010

I discovered HOTEL CHI-YA by accident as I walked from San Marcos to San Pedro. CHI-YA ("by the water" in the local dialect). It was the highlight of my trip. There are around 6 individual, large cabins that are beautifully built in local wood and tastefully decorated, all with private baths with hot water . They have balconies and steps take you to the lake where you can swim or fish or kayak. This is the perfect place for a honeymoon as the cabins are private and spaced out and surrounded by lush vegetation. San Pedro itself is noisy and it is only a few quetzals to get to CHI-YA by taxi.

Stay for 3 nights in the bungalow and thought it was excellent. The views out of the huge windows and from the lovely balcony are stunning and the location peaceful (we were the only ones staying there at the time). We were glad we did not stay in the sometimes smelly and noisy centre. The breakfasts were more than enough consisting of eggs, pancakes, fruit, tea, coffee (although they somethimes took a while to prepare). Well worth staying there even with the $1 tuk tuk ride back (we walked in even day as it was downhill and took about 15 minutes). Only thing to watch out for is there are many steps down to the cabins so anybody with a leg or foot disability may find it too difficult

Bary and his family went overboard to make my stay there great. Was my 2nd visit and I would not consider any other place. Beautiful hand built cabin with lovely views and fruit trees right outside your patio. Sealy Posturpedic beds, unending hot water-----and great breakfasts.

Visited San Pedro with my fiance. I didn't necessarily want to stay in San Pedro and the loud party scene. We found this wonderful hotel on the hill side. It is on the main road heading southwest out of town about 1/2 mile. $1.00 tuk tuk ride each way into town. Breakfast was amazing and cheap. Paid $24 a night for the best and cheapest hotel we found in Guatemala. Recommended highly.
