“First impression, chilled out”
Reviewed October 19, 2012

This review is only of first impressions as we didn't end up staying. For backpackers really on a budget this place is great as it's super cheap. For large groups pre-book as they couldn't put 5 of us in one room, hence why we didn't stay and it was a little too basic.

We stayed at Yo Mama's for a little over two weeks while studying Spanish. They have a fine kitchen with a fridge and individual baskets for groceries and free coffee. There are four hangout areas: the back garden, the pool room, the bonfire "pit", and an outside hammock/chair area. The rooms are good value for the price (30Q dorm, 40Q private) and clean, but don't expect something fancy. The bathrooms are nice and the showers (somewhat hot!) are fine as well.
The hostel is a 2 minute walk from the restaurant/bar area and 5 min walk from the lake (it's fine to swim in, ignore those who tell you otherwise).

That being said, you wouldn't go to Yo Mama's for the quality of the hostel but for the amazing chilled atmosphere and the people, who tend to linger there for longer than originally planned. Mario and Dee (the owners) are super nice, chilled and fun to hang out with, and we made a lot of friends there that will be friends for life. We would definitely recommend Yo Mama's.

I really enjoyed my stay here. The hostal was pretty clean, comfortable and I loved the people. The owners who run it (Mario & Dee I think their names are) were so nice and I liked the other people staying here too, in particular the 3 other guests who I shared a room with!!

The rooms are kind of like barn conversions but there is storage space for your backpacks and the rooms/beds are clean and of decent comfort. There is 1 skanky bathroom but there is also a very good bathroom out front which is also supplied with toilet paper and handwash, and was also clean, it was also massive. Can't comment on the shower cos I didn't use it.

There is nice hangout area with benches and hammocks at the front. The location of the hostal is great, it's a 2 minute walk from town and it's right near the internet cafe and a cluster of good restaurants and the buddha bar.

Plus it's CHEAP!! Only Q30 a night, which is like $4USD!! Was very pleased with my stay here, thank you guys!!

Room Tip: I stayed in a 6 bed dorm and it was great
