went back a year later for some food (rooms were booked) and the service has definitely gotten far (wow, so far) worse. the food is still pretty decent but not as good as a year ago. the menu is more pricey than a year ago. can't speak the rooms, but the service is absolutely notrocious. prices have gone up, service and quality have gone down.

Cool, popular place with good hang out areas, shame they close the movie room early though. The new owner and bar manager seem to be pretty cool guys. Wasn't happy with the two night minimum rule though and I think they could be a bit more considerate to their neighbours on a school night.

4 of my friends and I went to San Pedro last weekend, we wanted to stay in zoola but we arrived late and it was completely booked. So we stayed at the hotel next to the entrance to zoola, but spent the day there (at the restaurant and pool) and at night we partied around town.

Zoola is definitely a great place to spend the day at. They have a tent which is a lounge area with mats and cushions were you can eat or just relax and a pool with a great view of the lake.

The place is very clean, the food is great but the service is terrible. We had dinner last friday night, and the wait wasn't that bad, as I said, the food is great and the waitress was simply mad at the world but we didn't pay too much attention to that. Next day, we came back for lunch and we ordered about 5 plates and almost all of them took about 1 hour, but then we had to wait about 2 hours for a plate of guacamole and tortillas, which is pretty easy to make and one of the previous plates had guacamole on it, so i'm sure it was ready at least an hour earlier, on top of this, the tortillas were cold. We were very disappointed by the service, but we didn't let that ruin our time in San Pedro.

Later that day we came back to the pool area where there's a bar and had a few drinks there. The bartender has the worst attitude EVER! I read on the menu that a litter of beer costs Q30 and he charged Q45, so I asked him if that was the price cause the menu said something different and his answer was: "Zoola is expensive, that's why when I drink I don't come here" this was in spanish and it was way more rude than it sounds in english.

Overall, I think Zoola is a beautiful place to stay, eat or just visit, but they really need to change their staff or at least teach them some customer service skills, cause what you read in all of the previous reviews about service is COMPLETELY TRUE.

We've been to Zoola several times because you can't deny that the food is good. However, the overall experience is completely ruined by the service, or lack of service. The main waitress appears to hate life and all of the customers. No one has ever come to take our order at the table or brought us menus. Even if we are the only ones there. The last time I was there I had to wait 25 minutes until my girlfriend arrived just to be able to get a menu (she had to go up and get it). This is even when I have a cast on my leg and crutches so moving around isn't exactly easy. Then after all this they add a 10% service charge onto your bill!! If they are going to add a service charge they should be paying us because we have to do all the work!

I have eaten at Zoolas many times when I lived in San Marcos on the lake in 2010. The food is great. The service though is terrible. This time I visited with my partner and was excited to share with him the Zoola experience. However, as good as the food was, the service ruined the experience. The young waitress had an attitude that made you feel like it was a bother for her to serve you. She swore when she brought us the wrong tea and in order to get dessert, we had to finally get up and go look for her. If you can tolerate bad service, then the food is worth it. The combo is great and is fabulous value. The chocolate volcano dessert is definitely delicious and worth every calorie. Hopefully they will have a better more service-oriented waitress there by the time you go.

Wow, this food was incredible! Everything we had was amazing. The service, is slow. Insanely slow, do NOT go hungry, you will be starving by the time your food comes. We usually waited over an hour for food to come. But it was worth it. And so cheap too!

We came there for 1 night, but stayed 5 nights at the end!

A fun place to spent your time in San Pedro. It's located in a quiet side street, a bit difficult to find, but everyone can tell where it is. It has no view to the lake.
We took a double room with private bathroom. The bed was very comfortable.

The food at the restaurant is great! but a bit expensive (and meals were not included).

other than the restaurant, there`s a small garden with hammocks and a a pool area & a bar where small parties are taken every now and then, we didnt attended these though.

The owners run it in a lade back manner and helped with recommendations and tips.

A shared room with TV has DVD movies, but almost none played till the end.
the internet is free but tended to disconnect.

The great virtues of this place are the atmosphere, food and beds.
