My friend and I went to Pana for a couple of days and stayed at San Marcos for the first night and then stayed at Santa Cruz the second night and had I to do it again I would definitely stay at Santa Cruz IslaVerde the WHOLE time!!! IslaVerde is AMAZING!!!! The views, the beautiful plants, the food and the experience is worth the affordable rates you will pay! The staff is very hospitable too. Did I mention the Food IS AWESOME!!!! :)

Room Tip: Views are amazing in all the lodges! The communal bathroom is super clean and has a beautiful view w...

We stayed at Isla Verde in November of this year, and it truly is a beautiful place. Our cabin was almost at the top of the hill with an incredible view and a gorgeous bathroom that was partially open. The gardens and restaurant are lovely and we took an incredible, although exhausting, hike to the top of the ridge behind with a guide recommended by the staff. Do not attempt alone...it was hard! IslaVerde is not for everyone though...you do need to climb quite a few stairs to the cabins (a good reason to relax by the fire downstairs!), and right now the walk from the dock to the door is a bit treacherous due to past heavy rains and high water level. I'm sure it will be fixed soon. The food is delicious, but a bit overpriced..still, they grow much of it and it is incredibly fresh and creative. Staff was helpful and friendly. Charging for wireless access seemed cruel given the cost for accommodation and food, but it forced me to give up on email which turned out to be an even better option.

Room Tip: Higher numbered cabins (5, 6, 7) are exactly that...higher. A good view, but you get a good view at...

Isla Verde was put to the test with our group of 17 people-And they passed with flying colors! My entire study abroad group came here while on vacation from our Belizean home base. Isla put us in their 2 large suites. The suites were beautiful and each had a private bathroom and shower (separate from each other, which was great since there were so many people). Each suite had a veranda as well, with hanging flowers and a beautiful view of the lake. The staff was more than accommodating-The 17 of us arrived around 8:30PM, and although the kitchen closed at 8:00PM, they had the women in the kitchen make us all a delicious meal with local foods and home-grown produce (definitely a good place for the eco-friendly traveler). The location is great too-Some of us went over to San Pedro to hike the volcano there and were easily able to make the trip back and forth in quick time. We all look forward to the chance to return!

Room Tip: The higher up you go, the more beautiful the view. Be prepared for the hike up the stairs-But it'...

We really enjoyed our stay at IslaVerde. The staff is really helpful and the Yoga class con Alex was very good. And the yoga room is perfect to relax. Our room was clean and had an amazing terrace with view to the lake and the volcanoes. Overall, it was a very relaxing stay and if you go to lake Atitlan, you have to go to IslaVerde!

Islaverde is a beautiful and addictive place. It is located in Santa Cruz, which I believe is one of the quiet spots around the lake Atitlan. The rooms are actually little cabins built on the hill. There is a beautiful path within the garden that goes up to the cabins. The higher you go the better the lake view. The cabins are ecologically friendly in the most tasteful way possible. The shower is semi-open and you get the feeling that you are taking a shower outside. At the hotel you will also get the most delicious food that you can find in Guatemala. The cooks are excellent and all of their vegetables are grown in their garden. I really enjoyed their smoothies and cocktails while sitting on that porch watching the lake. The staff are very friendly and helpful. They try their best to keep a very positive vipe around so there's always good music playing in the common areas, there are some books that you can borrow for reading and a few games. The lake is nice for swimming and there are also kayaks available for rent. I wish I'll be able to return one day.

We have very much appreciated our stay at Isla Verde. Bungalows are very nice with a great view on the lake, but not suggested for lazy people (many stairs from reception to bungalows) nor for those that are noised by insects (in the middle of a forest, private bathrooms are nicely in the open air).
Restaurant is definitely suggested, both for dinner and breakfast!
Staff was very nice on average, some of them extremely nice!

Lake Atitlan is one of my favorite places on the planet and there isn´t any better place to enjoy it than at Islaverde. The combination between ecologically friendly practices and relaxed atmosphere let you disconnect without feeling guilty about your holiday! The bathrooms are my favorite- open air, solar showers, vine cielings and views of the lake! Bring a good book and you´ll be very content!
